Sorry, could not wait to add my pictures of the just painted bug shell. I'm not happy yet how it looks. I hope removing the bumpers and adding some decals will do the trick...

I think it looks great!! Definitely remove the rear bumper and think about the RPM bumper for the front as it fits the bug body quite well. Add a few decals at a time and see how it looks.
    Great job so far!

Ive never painted a body myself as Im pretty new to this hobby. Just ordered myself a baja body and will paint it, probably the same colours as yours.
Could you perhaps give me a guide to how you painted yours? And what brand of colour/code, how to mask, in what order to paint the different colors, and so on.

All help is appreciated!! Dont wanna mess up my body doing it the wrong way..

Is it possible to remove the paint if something goes wrong?

Hey Markup! I would be happy to help!

the colors I used were Pactra florescent orange, Pactra Outlaw black metallic, and Pactra Grape pearl.

I started by masking the windows, and then paint the Orange on the nose and just get lighter with the paint as you get towards the middle of the body. 2 coats.

then I applied the grape pearl (just very lightly) over the back half of the body 1 coat

then I painted the outlaw black over the grape pearl.

really simple, I'm far from a good body painter...lol..

I painted the whole body after with a coat of white pactra florescent backer.

I hope that helps ya a little.

Finished! well almost..... needs perhaps a few more decalls on the side, and a RPM front bumper of course (25aniv, thanks for the suggestion). Positive ;-) comments are always welcome.

do they make a body that has no engine mold, or are you guys just cutting it off? IMO no engine looks better.

peerdeman that bug is very, vey nice!

We are cutting the engine section off. The wing helps hide the odd shapes that are in the body mold and does look good on the body. I also modded my slash rear bumper and flipped it up under the body for a small engine cage.

Thank you for the nice comment. I used pictures of z_50_Jumper's baja bug as an example when I was cutting the body (Thanks z_50_Jumper!) I cut mine a little bit lower so I could add decalls of the rear lights.

No worries......your Bug looks great! What a difference with a few decals and the color choice is right on for that car. The bumper is just a preference thing, I think it looks good on mine. I think you will be happy with the look too

Hey cvdberg13, don't be so hard on yourself....everybody starts somewhere!
For a first attempt it looks pretty good to me and besides, if your having a blast with it and you've got a silly grin on your face, that's what counts the most!!

    Cirkus:
Thats really nice work! Give us some more pics with the body mounted on the car! Niiiiice details!
How do you paint the bolts in the windowframe? Adding some silver dots before masking and applying the black frame?
Might give that a try to.

    CeeBlock: Tnx for the help!
Ill check out some how-to-paint on youtube and give it a try i think

Since I painted the body for a friends car its not mounted yet. Maybe I'll get some pics when she gets it mounted. The way I do rivets around the windows is with a Sharpie. I put in the window mask like normal, paint the car, cut off the outer edge of the window mask, put the dots in with a Sharpie, then back it with black, then remove the window mask. Sometimes I'll make black rivets and back it with silver.
