What brushless motors have you used in your slash?

I am trying to decide what kv motor to use in my slash. I am going to use it with an EZRun ESC. I originally wanted to use the mamba sidewinder but the software doesn't work on 64bit vista. I understand the VXL motor is 3500kv. I don't want stupid fast. 50mph TOPS on 3s.

Have you used a motor other than 3500kv in your slash?

I've run a MM5700 and a VXL. Had problems keeping the 5700 cool even geared 12/90.

How fast would you say it is compared to stock, on a 2s lipo? Does it go fast enough to lift off on 3s? (that would be too fast).

Ideally I would like something that is still fun on 2s, since I already spent 90 bucks on one.

60a esc should be fine with 2s or 3s, I don't think the 60A is rated for 4s.

Get the FLM transmission case, jato gears and an e maxx pinion. Then throw the MMM system in it on 6s lipo. HAHAHA it is soooo fast. I have done it with a rustler, it would be better suited in a slash though.

But to be realistic here... get the MM esc and a vxl motor. You can tune the esc and you have a low kv motor. Otherwise the a medusa motor for more money.

I use the VXL with an 9.6v 4500. Its still slow....I need lipo!

I run the Mamba Max esc and the VXL motor on 3s. more than fast enough for bashing, way to much for racing and powerful enough to break a whole bunch of parts.

I run a sidewinder and 5700kv motor with a 5000mah 2 cell lipo. I would not recomend the 5700 tough to keep cool. Castel recommended 15/90 gearing and its still hard to keep the motor cool

I've run the following motors in my slash using an MM esc.

vxl: great 2s motor, fast on 3s but ran a little hot in the summer.

HV6.5: my favorite all round motor running 2s-4s this motor never gets hot (over 150). Downside is it does not run smooth with all esc's.

feigao 9l: lots of torque and speed, fun on road but takes a little finesse to control in the dirt.

castle 7700: 2s only, fast but runs hot. Not a good choice for the slash (but you should know that)

I run on the street 99% of the time so I prefer the faster motors but they are overkill IMO for off road.

Can I use a .8 mod pitch e-maxx spur gear on my slash? 5mm bore .8 mod pinions are pretty easy to find, but 5mm bore 48p is almost nonexistent and costs 20 bucks each.

What do you guys think of the Tacon 3650-10T Brushless Motor 3500KV? And if you think it's good enough for bashing and goof-off-racing (not serious competition), what ESC should I use? Thanks in advance!

traxxas engineers are smart, they made a velineon motor to be suitable for everybody basically. I run VXL system in my slash, and if i want it go fast a just change gears and battery, if i wanna go offroad again i am changing gears and battery. for high speeds you vxl will get a little too hot, so make sure u get a fan for both motor and ESC. I run 31/79 for my gearing with 3s lipo and geta bout 50mph and i wanna go below 30mph i go 2s lipo and stock VXL gearing which is 23/86... I love VXL system all the way around.

I have run a 4pole 3800 (2s) 4600(2s)mmp, and 1800kv castle 1512(4s/mmm), vxl system, reedy 3300 system, 2pole sw/4600. The mmp 3800 is by far my most recommended bashing setup(vxl second), and the 4600mmp is my most recommended racing setup(dont want anything else for what I race)...

Vxl setup on a 2s lipos geared 21/86 is pushing close to 50 and no heat issues. I highly recommend for 10 bucks get the strc motor plate.

The MMP/vxl motor is my gave combo right now. But you can't go wrong with the vxl esc either.

Ive used many of the options Rag6 has used also. My favourite was the MMP/4600kv geared correctly. My 2nd choice was the MMP/3800... it was excellent.

Im not sure how either of these motors on their own would work with a 60amp ESC. I don't see why they wouldn't work fine.

But, IF you can afford it, the MMP ESC is the best choice IMO.

I use the castle 1406 4 pole 5700kv on 2s (can use 3s) with 18x86 gearing. 41mph on 2s and I installed it in my slash a year ago and have not had any issues at all. I even put one in my son's Bandit... Seems to be a reliable motor & ESC.

I'm gonna try a HPI Flux Scream 1965Kv motor.
I know all HPI Flux sytems are Castle systems but I haven't seen this motor before... It's more or less Neu 1415 size (Mamba max SCT, what iI was lookin for, but they are excpensive overhere), but lower KV and as far as I found out, a 2 Pole...
Got me a MMM Esc and gonna run 3S, but I can step up to 4S with that motor.
I run huge, almost 145mm wheels zo I'm gonna start with 24/58 gearing (cause I got a 52t and a 58T spur...) and I was runnin'12/58 withe 3500Kv vxl. (3500/1965 x 12 = almost 22) So wiht the added power of this motor, it's gonna be 24..

Castle Sidewinder SCT 3800. Running 3s LiFePO4 (9.9v nominal) all day long with no problems. 2s LiPo = and 3s LiFe = It is claimed the Sidewinder ESC won't handle 3s LiPo so I'm not trying that... yet. Great system on a budget and I'm getting 40+ mph geared 14/56. Haven't clocked it but it is definitely breaking 40 easy.

I run a CC 3800 4pole SCT system in one Slash and a CC 5700 with mamba max in the other... The 4pole is quicker off the line but the top end is about the same.. gearing 26/83 with 4pole and 16/86 with 5700..
