    Wheels for a Blue Eagle

I recently dug my old Blue Eagle out of the closet and wanted to get a second set of wheels so I could swap back/forth between asphalt and off-road. I picked up some 2.2" wheels designed for a T4 but the wheels look like they were designed or smaller ball bearings. Does anyone know if there is a readily available wheel that will fit the Blue Eagle?

Am I stuck trying to find old Blue Eagle Wheels?

You wanting the asphalt tires or you wanting the dirt tires? There are all types of wheels that will fit your truck like jmauld put in the links and there are all types of tires...you have anything in mind that you were after?

Just looking for wheels. Just bought some Proline 2.2s (one set for road and one set for off-road) and wanted to be able to take it to the track or bash in the driveway without having to remount tires. I destroyed my stock tires sliding around on pavement already. Hooray for flatspotting 20 year old rubber.

Just reread klavy69's post. I bought the following tires:
I was going to use my stock wheels or the Road Hawgs and the new wheels for the off-road stuff.

No, but I could post some. Watching Formula One on tape delay, but I'll try to remember doing it later today.

Are we talking about the original 1902 Blue Eagle? If so those rims that jmauld linked will not work without some other parts. The first Blue Eagle used the same rims as the Tamiya Blackfoot. The rears had an adaptor that went over the hex.You could use the dished rear wheels simply by removing the adaptor, but it would make the rear stance slightly narrower. The front axles were also longer on the Blue Eagle as compared to the LS.Simple fix that would cost about $5 and take only a few minutes is to buy the LS front spindles.Once again, this would give you a slightly narrower stance. If,however, your Blue Eagle is the LS model, those rims will fit perfect and they will accomadate endless tire choices.Let's see some pics so we can figure out exactly what you need.

BTW,where the heck has jmauld been?He disappears for the longest time and pops up out of nowhere on this thread.

Hey buddy, I'm not THAT old.

hehe, yeah it's the original non-LS version. I bought it right when it came out since it was pretty much the only "real" stadium truck available at that time. I've still got the adapters and the original wheels. When you say the stance is slighly narrower, do you mean the offset is not the same? Well. I already bought some front and rear dishes. Hopefully they aren't so narrow that they'll damage the body in the low mounting position.

I was planning on taking some picks after i mounted my new tires to the stock rims. Just came back from a trip to pick up a hole punch.

Oh, just realized what you meant by 1902, yes it is a 1902. I've still got the original instruction manual. Sadly I think I tossed the box.

Hhe, I found the October 1990 parts list (I thought I tossed it out a few weeks ago thinking I could find everything on the internet). It lists part #s 1972 and 1973 as the original chrome wheels and 1974 and 1975 as the dyeable nylon ones.

Yep.The 1902 had shorter arms than the LS and all models after that. They compensated with wheels adaptors and longer spindles with less offset rims.Actually,my Blue Eagle is wider than my LS due to the rims, even though the rear arms are shorter.I believe the front arms are the same length on both trucks, but the LS has one extra set of holes for shock mounting options. If you want to keep it at original specs, you will need to find some Blackfoot style rims. The Hawk and 1901 Eagle also used those rims. They pop up on ebay every once in awhile.I would say that the best and easiest thing to do would be converting to LS suspension. All you really need is the rear arms, stub axle, camber links,xl rear shocks, and front spindles. Then you can use all of the readily available Nitro Rustler suspension parts.I can dig up the necessary part numbers if you are interested.

I don't really plan to race this car, so a slight change in track is no big deal. I guess I can keep the original chrome wheels to use for off roading, and use the white dishes for bashing on pavement (the opposite of my oriignal intention).

I'm a little confused about your statement wrt the spindles. Are those wheels going to fit my truck, out of the box or do I have to switch? I don't really want to dump a lot of money into this. I've got other things I'm already spending too much on.

You will probably have to use spacers on the front and rear with the dished wheels. The axle diameters are the same(5mm),but the LS axles are shorter.

Great. Thanks for all the help. I've already ordered/paid for the items off Ebay, so hopefully they won't be too hard to get onto my truck.

    OHHHH, you have those wheels.

I have a set of those, that I'm no longer using. If you want them, send me a PM, and I'll take a few pictures.

    Hibernating.

I've given my eagle to my 3yr old and I'm on the hunt for a slash sometime in the near future.

This project got delayed for a few weeks because I got sidetracked with my touring car. Any suggestions on spacers? The rears are definitely not usable without some modification. The difference in offset is quite a bit.

I forgot about this until I saw the adapters while looking for my old wheels.

These wheels come with an adapter that looks like it will allow you to use them with the old traxxas hubs. I'm not positive they would work.

Yeah, those. I have spares. I'll throw them in the box with the other rims, or just stick them in an envelope if you send me your address.

I opened the pack for the front wheels and they don't fit either. *sigh*

I went back to my parts list and I screwed up when I read it earlier. The correct part numbers are actually the following:
    Chrome:
    1872 Front
    1973 Rear
    White:
    1874 Front
    1975 Rear

I don't know why Traxxas decided that was a good way to list them and not in numerical order, but it is what it is.
At this point I'm pretty close to giving up. I realize the car is old, but the complete lack of support from Traxxas (the parts list isn't even linked on their site), the missteps every step along the way (first pair of tires I bought from Proline were defective and had to be returned), and the general frustration from having a bunch of incorrect parts makes me want to just give up and stick with my TC5R.

The parts list is on the site, but it's labeled wrong. They have it listed as the Eagle, but it is actually the list for the 1902 Blue Eagle.

You should be able to use the dished front rims with some spacers. If not, just change the front axles. They're cheap and easy to replace. With the rear,I would just change to LS/SRT/N.Rustler arms. That way you can use all the newer parts that are readily available. I'm pretty sure all you need is arms, stub axles, driveshafts, and camber links.

2555,2753,1937,1951 should be all you need to do the rear.

If you still decide to give up,throw it in a box and I'll give you the adress to send it to.
