The OFFICIAL 1/16th E-REVO/SLASH Battery Thread

There have been many threads about the batteries the 1/16ths use. Most people are looking at the ********* packs. So post the battery setup you are going to use in your 1/16th. Please post links to the batteries you are talking about.

Here are the batteries I use in my brushless mini-t and they are awesome. They barely fit in the battery boxes. They are only $15 a piece and are worth every penny.

I think that's more like what I will get unless I could get a cheaper one. I know dynamite makes 2, duratrax makes one, and that super brain charger. Will the dynamite chargers work?

You dont need any connectors for it. It just plugs into the balancing tap.

lipo cells over time become "unbalanced" meaning some cells hove more "power" than others the balancer dose just what it sounds like... you can use lipos with out balancing but it will shorten the life of your batt drasticly

Lipo's require banlancing. Most people balance them everytime they charge them. Some balance while charging, other balance after charging. I've heard great things about the above mentioned blinky balancer. Also, some chargers come equipped with a built in balancer such as the hyperion duo. The fact that the duo is around $300 means that its overkill if one of these mini's is going to be your only rc. However, if you have several electrics, it can't be beat from what I've heard.
Jato 3.3 RPM arms all the way around, Hitec 645 steering servo, road hawg tires on RPM rims, chassis upgrade soon to come, too many parts replaced to mention. Got my eye on a Revo 3.3, hope to get one before too much longer.

You really need to ballance your lipos. If you don't you can damage your lipo by over charging cells in an unballanced pack. Lipos can be dangerous but, if you use good charging and ballancing practices you should be fine. I use the triton jr. With the equanox ballancer. IMO it is a very simple setup and safe, almost idiot proof, and only costs around $115.

I currently do not have a power supply. Too many other things to buy (both mini's) So I just charge off my F-150 cigarette lighter outlet.

Several months ago, I had an interesting experience.

Evidently there are lots of people that don't balance their lipos.

Charger will be my Hyperion. First batteries will be 2 Maxamps 7 cells. Next set will be 2 Maxamps 1550HV 3 cells. Slasher it's amazing how many people refuse to follow very simple instructions. Folks, BALANCE your lipo's. No matter if you get the cheap ones or more expensive one's why waste your money? Also DO NOT CHARGE THEM WHILE INSIDE YOUR TRUCK...... lol

Redman, did you read through the whole thread? There are some good points made in it. Nevertheless, I have a balancer, it's easy and fast to use it.

You'll like those 3S 1550's. It's a shame, though, that they increased their prices by 40%.

Well, I ordered my mini revo from tower with a 60 dollar coupon. I also ordered four of these batteries http://www.*********.com/*********/s...idProduct=6307 for it.....They are going fast, there were over 70 in stock early this morning and now it shows just 11 left, glad I ordered when I did and you can't beat the price.

That's why I like my charger, balance while charging. As for the 40% increase you mention. Since when? The 1550's with TRX connecters and a 3 year/300 cycle warranty for under $60. To me that's worth every penny. Some people want a power plant that will do nothing but flip their truck over and if they are lucky they will be able to drive very fast in a straight line. That's fine. All I want is a high quality battery that I know I can count on. To me that for under $60 is a very good deal. I still would love to see some of the folks at the different magazines do some long term testing on all of these cheaper batteries and compare them to the higher end ones.

Red man max Amps is a rip off. I would much rather buy 4 batteries that last me a year than. Pay $60 for one.

Pay $60 for one that is covered for 3 years..... You don't make much sense with that logic. Your $15 batteries x4= $60 per year. My one battery for under $60 that is covered for 3 years costs far less than your $180 you'd spend over that time for your 'cheaper' batteries. That sure does not sound like a 'rip off' to me based on your logic. 31794 there is a reason Maxamps was rated #1 by rc fans last year.

How about 6 cell 2700mah AA's? I'll be trying 2x 6cell AA flat packs for 5400mah total in a setup like this below pic. I plan to simply remove the battery cover doors with snug foam and velcro strap holding them in. The packs will protrude out the sides about 15mm but assuming unabusive driving, I don't see any major problem with that.

Sorry to burst your bubble, but MaxAmps batteries are over priced and overrated. On average, you'll want to divide the current ratings on Maxamps packs by about 1.3 (or multiply by .8). This will give you a better true output for MaxAmps packs.

Just because they are popular does not mean they are good. It simply means they have been hyped up. I have not found a single person who has gone from MaxAmps to quality packs that use Enerland cells (e.g. FlightPower) and regretted it. If anything, they wondered why they ever got MaxAmps to begin with.

Lastly, 99% of Lipo failures are due to misuse. Lipo's are fragile, but when used properly, are just as reliable if not more reliable than other battery types. I've had all my Lipo's for years, some which sit 4+ months at a time and they are fine. I just keep them in a cool environment and make sure they have a decent charge. So the chance he'll destroy the pack at all is probably extremely low. And your assumption is that his pack would fail immediately after the warranty expired, which I find extremely doubtful. Also, you are comparing the price of 4 batteries to one.

So once you get past all the inequalities of the comparison, actually, he's saving far more with his cheaper batteries. If its a 1 to 1 comparison, by your rules if each battery failed at the end of its warranty period, he could buy 4 batteries (and therefore have 4 years) for the price of your single 3 year pack. Or, if you went by price alone, he could have 4 packs for your one.

I'd much rather get the 4 "cheap" packs, cause I can have 3 of them fail and still make out just as well as having one "good" pack in the end.

So what would happen if one uses a 6 cell 1600mah with a 6 cell 600mah in parallel? Will it work fine for longer run time or will it cause battery harm to either?

Traxxas said we would get 7-10 minutes of runtime out of the stock batteries, so if you plug 2 batteries in serie (double the voltage) to get to 50mph, you would have the same runtime.
