    dx3s low voltage warning

I just go the dx3s radio, only really used it for a full run through however. one thing i found out, that I didn't realize when i bought it, there's a warning alarm for low batt voltage.
I'm only running nimh right now, but am looking at going lipo soon, and am wondering if this is good enough to use, without going to a lvc? it doesn't kill the current, but it warns me when I'm getting low, gives me time to come in and swap packs.

That's measuring the voltage the receiver is getting and meant to let you know your receiver pack(on a nitro) is getting low before you lose control. It goes off at a good voltage for nimh packs, but lipos would be toast before they hit the alarm.

No, Greg, the DX3S has telemetry...with an option to monitor main-pack voltage, not just Tx voltage.

Funny, my DX3S only shows tx voltage and rx voltage on its telemetry screen. And the manual says nothing about it monitoring the main battery.

The rx only has as much voltage as the esc sends it and is completely irrelevant to main battery voltage. Except that when your main battery goes below the voltage the esc is sending to the rx, that voltage will also drop, at which point you will be notified by your DX3S. Of course, by that point (typically about 6V) your lipos are already in trouble. Even if you were running on 2s for some reason, it would be cutting it pretty close.
You can set the DX3S voltage alarm as high as 25v, but unless you have a high-voltage rx(do these exist?), all you ever see on the tx is the ~6V the rx runs on. Thus, like I said, only useful if you have a receiver pack(nitro) or run on nimhs. For lipos you will need an lvc, assuming he's using the stock EVX2 to run his DeWalt motor(mmm has one built in).

Revo, the DX3S does NOT monitor the pack voltage with the stock components. To monitor the pack voltage with the DX3S, you need to purchase one of the older receivers (SR3000 or SR3001), get one of the telemetry transmitters, and a special set of wires to monitor the pack voltage. The only thing it can monitor in it's stock for with the telemetry receiver is the RX pack voltage.

well that sux, but thanx for the feedback.

good to know that the mmm esc has the lvc built in, may be worth looking at for an upgrade.

Ummm...if you hook the Rx voltage sensor to the main pack, won't it read the main pack's voltage?

no separate sensor, it reads directly from the receiver.

Yea, I know...what's plugged into the Rx? The ESC is, which gets power from the main battery pack, so it should read the voltage of any battery plugged into the system. it will read the voltage of the main pack.

The ESC doesnt give voltage from the main pack directly to the receiver, It has a BEC which gives a constant regulated voltage, thats why it will always show around 6 volts no matter what packs are hooked up. It wont monitor the main pack.
