I was wondering if anybody has a suggestion on what remote to get for the summit. I was thinking of getting a Spektrum dx5e since it is a 2.4 with 5 channels. Open to any suggestions.

as long as you stay in the 2.4ghz series they are all good, just a personal choice from now.

I believe some air oriented radios do not work particularly well on land based vehicles. I am not sure if the one you are talking about would work fine, but I know some dont.
I know Futaba makes a 4 channel 2.4ghz radio for cars, but its pretty expensive.

theres a nice airtronics one, i belive its 5channel and its only about 200$. i saw it in mag..have to go look for it.
Lead, follow, or get out of my way!
So if you buy one of these 2.4ghz , will they have the high/low and the locking diff. switch in them or does that need to be installed ??

Have no idea my LHS told me that it should work fine and most likely easier to drive than the stock remote but I dont want to buy a 150 dollar remote and not have it work.
The cheaper 3 channel 2.4 systems may work for you, if you are willing to put up with a bit of a work arround for the locking hubs and 2 speed. Set up the radio so that the 3rd channel is controling the hub locking module, then put a Y connector on one of the hub servos and the shift servo. That way when you lock the hub with that servo (your choice of front or back), it also kicks down to low gear. This would work best with a radio like the Spektrum DX3r that has a 3 position third channel. I'm not sure what other radios can do that.
Another option if you can solder, pick up a Traxxas 2.4 gHz system and convert it to 4 channel. Someone posted a how to on the Revo forum-> http://monster.traxxas.com/showthread.php?t=465950
