TQ 2.4GHz - 2 to 4 Channel Mod

hey Daniel,

thats is an awesome mod with the lipo battery! i am interested in doing this but the main reason for me would be to lighten the remote all together as 8AA's can be heavy...

does it make the remote much lighter? also very curious to see how long it lasted as well.

The LiPo weights 100grs (like 3.5oz)... 8AA's weight 250grs (like 9oz)... So, is less than half weight of the AAs...

Yes, this is the stock TQ2.4Ghz with 2 channels, that I converted it to 4 channels and added a LiPo...

I'll update about the runtime soon...

Cool!!! 9 hours and counting... The LVA is still blue (then turns red and then the alarm sounds)... So far, I'm pretty happy with the LiPo's runtime... And, I have 4 of them!!!

Let's bet on how long will it last... LOL

lol my dad is a controls enginner

so i have a dad like you have you :P . but he doesnt make custom boards like that... how do you do them?

I have the new High Output 2.4GHz system in hand and with some of the comments on other threads indicating that some things you can do with the first gen 2.4GHz might not work on these I wanted to ask if anyone has looked into it for the High Output 2.4GHz?

Great timing... I just got back in town and have an extra on the shelf, I don't have the experience you do so I will certainly wait unless I get too antsy and want to knock it out this weekend.

I've been waiting on the Traxxas 4 channel transmitter but I see dates are getting pushed back to March as of today so it looks like we need to do it ourselves

Well, got my Slash 4x4 today and the new transmitter... So far, looks like it's not possible to add a third and a fourth channel... But, there are a few things I want to check on the circuit board.... I'll let you know if I find something new...

I ran the stock radio today since it was the first real snow accumulation since I moved here (around Virginia Beach) 8 years ago. It sadly is glitching like I expected it might so I wanted to check to see if anything interesting floated up? If not I'm weighing my options regarding the old 2.4GHz system or a 4PK

how about converting the AM TQ2/3/4 to 2.4ghz instead?

i bought a DIY corona conversion for 2.4ghz for my TQ4.

just need to find out where the PPM signal point is.

Anyone knows? if not i'll have to search the points 1 by 1..

anyone know, will this work on a new 2.4 transmitter (the black one)?

by the way, i've never put 8 (8!!! are they crazy?

) batteries in my transmitter.
i'm using this:

it's really cheap and don't require any voltage monitor or soldering.
all i need is 3 li-ion batteries with pcb and a charger if you don't have one yet.

and transmitters with 4 AA batteries will require only 2 of these li-ions

Yes it can, it's almost the same procedure... If I have time, I'll make a new thread about that...

No, the new TQ Link 2.4 does not support more than 6 volts...

Hahaha, sorry, my mistake... No, you can't convert an AM radio from 2 to 4 channels, but yes, you can add a LiPo to it...

And, yes, you can convert your new TQ Link 2.4Ghz transmitter to 4 channels if it was enabled from factory, check my thread about it:

I can use one transmitter to two receivers, two cars and I wanted to use a single transmitter for both? And how can reprogram to get link between transmitter and receiver? Thank you for attention.

Hi Daniel,
I read your post on installing a LiPo on the TX for the 2.4 and it was amazing. I recently bought the 1/16 erevo vxl brushless and it came witht he old TX. Unfortunately 8AA goes fast and is very heavy. Do you think you can find a moment to explain how to use it with a Lipo instead? I'd appreciate any help as I can't find anything on the net.

This would be great if it worked on the new black 2.4ghz. I haven't cracked mine open yet but it only takes 4 AA batteries.

Yes...

I knew I had a board from an AM TQ somewhere...

The LiPo and the LVA share the same negative point... The positive of the LiPo goes to the right and the positive of the LVA goes to the left...
