    ATV gear?

I'll probably be getting an ATV soon and I'm looking for some riding gear including the following : Boots, Gloves, Jersey, Pants, Helmet, Roost Deflector [that thing that goes over my shoulders to protect your chest right?], maybe some Knee Guards. I'm not quite sure on what color the ATV will be, but ofcourse I'd like for my gear to match the bike. So if you can suggest some good stuff at fair prices and take pics of what you have, that will be awesome. My size will probably be youth; my normal clothes' sizes are about 16 U.S. My price-range, maybe in the $200 and lower range. Thanks.

In my opinion unless you are doing competitive racing all you will need is a helmet and gloves. Ive had a quad since i was about 6 and i have never found the need for anything besides helmet and riding gloves.

True...I'm not racing, but I will be going fast. I'm looking at a 330 4-stroke or a 250 4-stroke. You may say I'll be a basher...and the only person I'll be racing is my dad...lol.

Spend the most money you can on a helmet. It may save your life. I always used HJC helmets and moose racing gear.

I was just looking at Ocelot-Racing gear and I saw a helmet that's like $50. I'm not going to spend $200 on a helmet. I could but still... I was thinking more of under $100. Yes I know the better the helmet, the safer I'll be, but I'm a careful driver...lol. I mean let's face it... I'm not doing nac-nacs and stuff. Really the most danger I'll ibe in is when I'm doing jumps that aren't that big, and I won't be doing those at very high speeds. Now yes I have crashed on a 90cc 2-stroke ATV when I hit a tree and flipped over the handle bars, and the seat came off...but that was over 3 years ago so I'm a better driver and safer now, even though I'm not the safest; in other words I can have a NFS...lol. Here's a link to the stuff I was looking at... http://www.ocelot-racing.com/ Yes that isn't the best stuff out there, but again, I'm only going to be "bashing" and trail-riding.....

I don't know what makes a helmet "good" but as long as it is "bell aproved" it should be good. My dad bought me a helmet out of northern tools that was $60 and it has saved me a few times.

I wouldn't have though Northern would have them, even though they do sell go-karts. That's probably where I'll get that... and I have some gloves I use for lawncare that at look so much like ATV gloves nobody would know unless I told them.

    What about boots?

I think you mean a chest protector, just google FOX racing or THOR. and as for a helmet I like this monster energy helmet by JS powersports and the price isn't to bad. and boots are pretty pricey. and the northern tool helmet is a good helmet I had one and I hit tree limbs at a good speed and was ok and for googles(not sure if they still make them any more but I swear by my okleys

Thor does make very quality riding gear. Helmet wise, TLD all the way for me. I have owned multiple helmets and once I convinced myself to spend 400+ on a helmet...may sound crazy but you're getting the best of the best and you've got one of the best looking helmets on the planet.

The best helmet in the world still has to fit right. It needs to be snug and kindof squish your cheeks a little. You don't want your head rattling around inside if you wreck. Also boots are very important, to protect your feet and ankles. I wear FOX, but that's because they were on sale. Motosport has GOOD clearance sales sometimes, check them out for jerseys, pants, gloves, etc. I bought a couple jerseys and a pair of racing pants for $60 once.

    Try this place:
    http://www.denniskirk.com/jsp/produc...questid=631044

Dennis Kirk has great shipping and service, and great prices on unsold gear from previous years. I just got a $180 Thor helmet for $40 shipped because it was an '06 model. Still a great helmet, just old stock.

Search through the closeouts, and you'll find great deals at Dennis Kirk. They ship same day, and it gets to the location FAST.

Just think about this for a few minutes. Just sit back and really think.................... Those tires and rims will not preserve the ability to do this so think real hard.

A $400 helmet will have a lot of the price coming from company names and graphics. Look for a Snell approved helmet as they are the safest and have testing to prove it. A DOT helmet has never been tested, but the manufacturer thinks it will be okay, and a helmet without either should never go on your head. A good Snell approved helmet can be had for $100-200.

FYI, it is recommended to replace the helmet after a crash, as impacts can change how the foam inside of the helmet will protect you the next time around.

I agree with everyone who has noted the importance of a good helmet. Too many people out there spend big money on their ride (albeit a snowmobile, four wheeler, dirt bike, etc.) only to skimp on the helmet. Also, if you shop around, you can find some great deals on new helmets. Look for leftovers from previous years... many shops are looking to move the old models to make room for the "latest and greatest." I was able to pick up my name-brand Modular Snowmobile helmet for way less than the original price because it was a previous years model.

Like I said, DO NOT skimp on a helmet. I thought I was a good driver before I rolled my quad end of end once. My head was the first thing to hit the ground. I suffered no injury, I attribute this to my helmet. Then sept. 07 I rolled my quad backwards off a hill. I landed on my back and then my head whipped back and struck a tree. Again, no head injury, but I did blow my L3 vertabrae apart.

This was a kid I knew. He had the $50 helmet.

I rode for 6 years and considered myself to be a "good" driver and here's what happened.

    Most important stuff
    1. Helmet
    2. 8-10" boots
    3. goggles (if riding behind other people)
    4. chest protector
    5. gloves (not needed, but keep hands from getting blisters)

just because the poor kid died doesn't mean it was because of the $50 helmet.

Very true, it doesn't matter how good or poor your helmet is when you wrap an ATV, dirt or snowmobile around a tree. The damage to the rest of the body is so severe you don't stand a chance. Without immediate help, a rib through the lung or damage to the heart will do you in, and a helmet will not prevent this.

Check ebay for closeouts on helmets. I bought 3 Fox V3's off of there for our group for about $140 each NIB when they were $350+ 6 months prior at cyclegear.

Honestly, i would say evaluate what you plan to do on your atv.... buy gear that would protect you vulnerable areas. and if you feel you need more protection, buy it as you go along. you may not need
everything RIGHT NOW. When i work, i don't wear anything but gloves to prevent blisters, boots, and a thick jacket to stop those stubborn branches from popping me in my arm. it's more of choice. i don't think i would get reprimanded though. I'm not talking down on people who spend lots of money on helmets, but if you think about it, a helmet may save you.... but you can still get injured with or without that $8,000(just an example) helmet. things happen. just like you see bikers on the street with just the little metal or alum. helmet on. just for decorations. and few of tem told me they have been driving for years and a couple of them have told me they'd rather not be in a wheel chair, alive and depending on a nurse.
i know i started rambling but all that to say.....

Just practice safety along with that fun.

I use Thor jerseys and goggles (20). The jersey I rock is the Kawasaki Monster one, and it fits nice and snug unlike my oneal one, everytime I pulled a stand-up wheelie, it would lift. Since you are noty sure wht color, I say go to http://www.denniskirk.com/jsp/common/Frontpage.jsp , and order a catalog (free). It's thicker than a h.s. textbook!. If you still want a less than 150$ helmet, PM me. You want to look for a D.O.T. or SNELL aproved, and I reccomend a well-known brand. http://www.motorcyclistonline.com/ge...iew/index.html

The link above here is a Discount page of dennis kirk, they are last year's left overs basically.

He hit the tree and flew off the seat. His head was the only thing to touch the tree. There was no other bodily damage other than his head. Full body CT scan showed no internal damage.

It really doesn't matter if you think you're good at riding or not, you always should be wearing a quality helmet.

I spent around 600 dollars on all my gear and I feel like I could take a pretty good beating now. I think of myself as an ok rider. I'm not as crazy as some of my other friends, and I don't ride the biggest bike, but I would never go riding without at least my helmet, boots, and gloves.

I wear an HJC CLX-5 helmet (about $140 with a discount because it was last year's model)
Thor Quadrant boots ($140 with 25% off)
    Fox Dirtpaw gloves ($20)
    Fox Bomber Gloves ($35)
Thor Force Chest Protector ($120 with either 20% or 10% off)
    Fox 180 pants ($90)
    Fox HC Jersey ($20)
    Scott 89xi goggles ($35)

I think the best advice is just to spend as much as you can on gear. It will help you.
Life is just a box of chocolates!

My helmet was only about $80. It WAS DOT approved. The guy that helped us out there said it doesn't really matter how high quality it is, a DOT approved helmet, is still DOT appproved. So even though it's probably not the greatest protecting helmet, it could still save my life. I thank all of you for your concern and advice.....

I races 450s, I will tell you GET THE BEST GEAR that you can.. Even if that means getting a less expensive quad.. Honestly if you only have 200 dollars to spend on gear I would suggest not even getting the quad or getting a cheaper one so you can afford good gear... I can't even began to tell you the amount of money I have spent on gear.... My boots alone where $400, Alpinestars Tech 8s...
You said your getting a honda right? Dont' worry you can't go fast enough to hurt yourself.
