Don't do it. Low gearing + big tires + lots of weight + lots of torque = broken driveline. There have been two reports of failed drivelines so far, neither of which were being "abused" and only one report of a successful first few runs. And that is with stock torque, brushless is incomparably harder on the driveline.

Only way i would consider Brushless on a Summit is 1/8th scale differentials, stronger transmission, and CVD's all around... but in that case it would probably just be an oversized revo..

I'll be running either the MMM 2K or my HV Novak.... from the sounds of it as long as you run it according to the manufactures instructions you should be OK. This is basically the same set up as the E-Revo so it should be fine....

The diffs, tranny gears and driveshafts are all different than the E-Revo. The truck is also much heavier with a two speed and ultra low first gear. If you put the MMM or HV system on it, be sure and get vids.

I ordered in a M11 2.4Ghz 4 channel radio so the diff and gears will run on channel 3 and 4.

So far from what I can tell there haven't been any tranny or driveshaft issues. Diffs are different but the issue is changing to locked at speed contrary to the manufactures instructions.

As for weight how much heavier than the E-Revo?

I have had 0 issues as well. I stop my truck and switch the diffs over, then SLOWLY move it forward till it clicks or just a small amount.
Diffs don't seem to care if they are being rocked on locked or unlocked, seems you just have to make sure you are either moving VERY slowly or not moving before locking/unlocking.

See, I think iff all shifting, diff locking and all that is done at a stop, and you don't try and go real fast with the diffs locked, you should be fine!

i suggested to my twin (ricketkm) that he should put the mamba 2200 kv system in the summit. to my understanding the cvd and the diffs are suppose to be stronger than e-revo. so why would it be a problem if he put the mamba 2200 kv combo in his truck. he his going to change his gearing to a 62/22, change his wheels to the traxxas reponse and his radio to a regular fm 3ch futaba radio. basically it is going to be setup like an erevo for racing.

Since they have a low speed crawling gear, ur gonna get cogging with all the sensorless motors, I'd go with the Novak Goat kit if you want to go brushless.

If you want to go fast, you should get a Revo. None of the enhancements on the Summit are even slightly useful in a fast, powerful truck, and they just add failure points and weight in that situation. If you want a Summit, you want a Summit. If you want a brushless Summit, what you actually want is a Revo. Trust me.

So he's basically going to have a very expensive brushless E-Revo? Seems like a waste of money, getting a Summit and then throwing away most of the parts (and radio channels) that make it different from a Revo.

A Goat is a bit underpowered for a truck like this. I don't think people fully appreciate the power of that 775 motor. Brushed motors aren't totally evil, you know, particularly sealed, zero-maintenance ones. How many replacement 775 motors can you buy for the price of a similarly-powerful brushless system? The motor is a perfect fit for the application.

You can buy 1 and a half 775 Titans for the price of one 8XL brushless motor that is FAR superior to any brushed motor.

personally Id stick with a brushed setup, at least until a waterproof brushless setup made for the summit pops up.

That's a nice looking motor. I don't think it'll run very fast without a brushless ESC, though, and Hobby City doesn't seem to carry any 100+ amp controllers, so it's looking like a Mamba Monster...which adds another five replacement 775s.

Please understand I'm not saying brushed is just as good. I'm saying that for this particular application, where the truck needs smooth torque and is likely to be covered in mud and water, brushed is actually better.

All of the mamba ESC and brushless motors are waterproof, though they won't advertise it that way. I have submerged both a Mamba Micro and Max repeatedly without any issues bashing in water and snow. I'm thinking about installing a monster in my Summit.

Refer back to my first post in this thread. If you think you want a brushless Summit, what you actually want is an E-Revo. The locking diffs and low-range gearbox aren't necessary or even suitable for brushless power. Take those away and you have an E-Revo with big tires.

If you put brushless power in a Summit, you will break things regularly and you will probably be disappointed. If you want speed, you don't need locking diffs and low-range, and would be much better off with a lighter, cheaper (by the time you're done upgrading) brushless E-Revo.

the summit is bl ready isnt it? im sure it will be fine if treated the way its meeant to be. with a mamba monster, i doubt it will have the same control it had before, unless you tune it wayyy down, but it will still be fun. i agree, if you are going bl you might as well get a maxx or erevo because its cheaper, but somebody has got to try this out right?

Are you stating that the Summit is not Brushless Ready???

The March 2009 RC Car Action magazine has a review of the Summit. On page 79, it states, "Like the E-Revo, the Summit is "Brushless Ready" thanks to a heavy-duty transmission with steel idler gears. It is also equipped with an adjustable Revo-spec slipper clutch to further ensure drivetrain reliability."

If you are not going to be running in mud, water, snow, and whatever else litters the earth, why on earth would you get a Summit?

That is what it is built for. If you want it to look like a Summit, get the body, the tires, and the bumpers. Done.

I just don't get it. Why would you want to make a Summit brushless. The benefits of a brushed motor outweigh a brushless in this application. Smooth power control, waterproof, and cheap to replace.

And you will end up replacing a brushless motor in the Summit. It will ingest mud, grit and grime, which will destroy the internal workings. The brushed motor will run you about $20-50 to replace. And as for the cost of adding a BL ESC, yikes. I have only found ONE waterproof BL ESC. ONE!! And it cost almost $300. Not really worth it. Your looking at close to $500 for motor and ESC!!! Yikes!!
    I don't have a witty signature.

Maybe a goat with the motor that is normally used for the HV-MAXX 7.5 or something similar, what would you think of that?

In response to the above post, on the very low end the goat has a much more precise feel. For the brushed, I try to feather the throttle and it just kinda lurches.

Personally I'd just leave it the way it is though, I don't want to give up the waterproofing and I don't believe any of Novak's ESCs are.

With that being said if you really want the brushless speed get the e-revo instead. This was not really meant to go 40, it would reak havoc on the drivetrain.
