    New personal best.. 57.1mph

Did some top speed runs today and managed a best of 57.1mph. There's still a lot of tuning to be done and I'm very confidant 60mph is attainable. Today's setup consisted of:

    Velineon 3500
    Mamba Max
    3S *****
    25/83 gearing
Talon's in the back and Road Rage II in the front

Some may wonder about the odd tire choice, well 25/83 was the most aggressive gearing I had and wanted more, so I slapped on larger tires in the back. and 57.1MPH was the end result. The car was surprisingly planted, provided you didn't make sudden turns.

Additional steps I'll be taking for higher speed, is obviously taller gearing for one. Going to run Road Rage II tires all around to reduce rotational mass and just depend on my spur/pinion to get me the faster speeds. Will lower the car for better aero. I was actually set to my higher suspension settings and used two spacers in the rear to keep the large talons from rubbing. And I'll be removing the lead fishing weights from the front of the car.

I think the combo of taller gearing, reduced rotational mass, better aero and reduced weight should be enough to give me the additional 3mph I need to break 60. My buddy who was running a similar setup, but geared 23/83 topped out an an even 52mph.

Here's a short video of our runs.

Depending on how distant you will start your run, maybe 70 Mph is after 1/4 of mile......

what kind of temps on the esc and motor,
talons weigh a lot and have an aggressive tread pattern,
30 series road tires might provide a little more control and speed in the long run

what camera man, its on the ground.
thats is risky to do speed run in front of camera
on the jato forum there is a video like this but it does not end so well, you can see the jato lose control and roll into the camera witch never worked again.

The area we had to work with was well under 1/4 mile. If we had a 1/4mile stretch, it would have probably hit even higher.

Agreed, Talons are heavy, exactly why they won't be used for the next runs

Not sure on the temps, didn't measure. i was able to touch both the motor and ESC without burning my finger though. It wasn't until about 5 seconds that there was a little sting, though it was brisk outside (lower 60's) and I've got an aluminum tranny case which helps dissapate the heat a little better.

There is no camera man, it was placed on the ground and it's a $25 camera.

    2IS,

How did you figure your speeds out? Radar, GPS, etc.. 57mph with a Slash is pretty good. Congrats.

That was cool! Those slashes whizzing around at 50+! Cool vid! Who was that that jumped out of the way, he must of almost got hit. From the camera, it looked like it was close, but not that close.

Had a Garmin GPS strapped to the car. That was me that jumped out of the way. You're right, it wasn't "that" close, but I didn't want to wait and test my reaction time against a speeding slash.
