    Question 2 pc problems

Ok, so last night, i took apart one of my pc's to clean the fans, heat sinks, ect. Now, i cant connect to the internet! I know i have a good conection because i can play my 360 through the cat5 (i think) thing and xbox live works. So whats the problem, i did a virus scan with everything a-okay.

And another problem, my CPU reaches temps of 54*C when just doing normal stuff, not while gaming, is this a serious problem, or is that ok?

    Thanks.

about the internet make sure you have all modem card etc. or whatever you use be it usb wireless etc. plugged in all the way it can take a good amout of force to get them in right but be carful at the same time. And the temps should be fine my laptop hits those temps regulary and its fine.

it coulda fried the mobo when u took it apart. and with the temp. if that is higher than normal it is because when you remove the heatsink you ruin the bond between the thermal paste, the CPU and the fan. you probably need more thermal paste

+50 degrees is a litte high for a pc, esp if it's a newer board. you should be between 30-40*C and maybe high 40's to low 50's gaming or under a heavy load. make sure your thermal paste is good and that your fans are actually running inside your case if you cannot see inside during operation.

as far as your internet, make sure your device is enabled, and that the driver isworking properly. i'm assuming that it is a PCI device, because, you mention you took everything apart. make sure that the card is in place, and you will need to give a good push to make sure it's in place. you can tell when you are close when the screw on the device is pretty much lined up with the screw hole in your case to secure it. as for the lines, make sure they are connected securely. if you can test the connection with a friends laptop or another pc.

good luck. recently my onboard ethernet port on my pc went, and i went to staples and got a new pci ethernet slot and it works good.

    1. Remove your heat sink, use a safety razor to scrape of the old thermal paste and use rubbin alchohol with lint free cloth to remove the rest. Make sure you do not get any of this stuff pushed over the sides or it may com in contact with the cpu pins.
Once you have done that use a very thin, even film of heat sink thermal paste (don't use the stuff that's like dual sided tape it stinks). Then put your Heat sink back on.

How is your PC conncting to the internet? Do you have an internal wireless network card? Or a USB Network adapter? Or an Internal Network card with a cat5 going to the router? IT can be something as simple as the cat5 cable being bad or a corrupt driver.
In most cases uninstall the device and the software for what connects you to your router and re-install it. Go from there.

Also many cases have spots to add fans and usually Motherboards have variable speed fan connections on them. Or they can be plugged onto regular power connectors from the power supply.

If you can space out your CDROM DVD, floppy, and hard drives so they are not on top of each other leaving space in between it will allow better air flow from the front of the cpu.

I would also power on you computer while the cover is off and see if all fans are operating, one quits and there goes your temps.

thanks for the heat sink advice nirto! I'll try that this weekend. All fans do work, but i only have 3 in total, including the power suply fan.

I normaly use the cat5 conector built into the mobo.
Update: THe wired internet works again. I dont know why, all i did was a registry cleaner, and defragmented the hard drive. Does that make any sence??
