Anyone else frequent Sk8 parks w/ their Traxxas?

I kinda find it pretty exhilarating, the feeling knowing that one bad move and your truck can get pretty well trashed. But what great fun! lol
Here is where we go: http://www.sangres.com/colorado/lasanimas/skatepark.htm
And this is more or less how I like to run it:

I guess we'll have to set down one of the TQ's and video some action next time.

    I sure do.

either before or after i skate, i take my rusty. I plan to get my pede up to par and get that out there too. It's feakin' scary sometimes though, like when your shooting off a twinkie and can't get your nose up for anything and pow...the silence...the hurried sprint to the hopefull working car...LOL

i normally go by my self so i don't draw attention to it, but i'll get some vids of my parks shortly.

The parks local to me are built small and cramped. that park you should me is awesome!!!

Lol, Yeah, we just got into RC's a couple months ago and a stock Pede would last us about 5 mins tops (trying to be easy). All the breakage led to what we have now. We are getting much better at throttle control and picking the right lines to keep the rubber down.
That body looked really good about 2 weeks ago, but the rash adds character I think!
We don't actually skate (maybe give that a shot this coming spring), but will watch the "pros" to get ideas of things to try out. I don't know if control would be better with a 4wd truck, anyone tried that? I am guessing the ability to slide the front end actually give us more control although extremely challenging to learn how to do it well.

My goal is to keep the car as lightweight as possible, set it low and wide of course and the get the camber about 3degrees to keep some good traction going into the bowls. It's also pretty neat working at the two wheel driving (aka. General Leeing)
We don't just try to launch the car in the air, although that's another story; but try to slide the rails and do mid air turns and smooth landings.
Of my trucks, I actually like the Pede's ground clearance and skids better than the Rusty chassis, although they both work.

So far, I like the Anacondas best and the Dirt Works second. (they slip a little more, but I'll try some Welsey's Belche White next time I run to see how that helps them. Gearing, I like 16/90 and a 2s lipo fan cooled.

Lol, maybe I'll have to get a cheap plastic lightweight skateboard and throw some brushless power on it!

LOL. i raised my rusty up on the shock mounts to get a 2.5 height and change the gearing down for more off the gate power which helps in those areas were i stumble on the coping. i love riding the walls and vert areas. this really draws attention from all the gromes..little kids and their moms so i always pack a pocket full of my teams stickers...sacrifce skateboards and found that it's a great tool to get kids thinking out side the X-box if you know what i mean.

i'm not going to get into lipos as i've heard they're really a lot of work but maybe someday.

i like to gas and turn just as I hit the coping which gives me a bit more rea turn for reentry into the pools. i'm not catching too much air; a foot or so but yeah, it's fun.

I do windex my tires one the riding surface ever so often to ensure a good amount of grip. heck, i even do body slides on curbs now that i know how to handle the truck better. parking blocks are easy for this. just ride at a slight angle to the block, turn into it and just as your front past the edge on the other side i gas it.

2s is just a little lighter and runs for about an hour. I also think they are more durable (I have the hardshell 5000mh) as I cracked my 7cell's case and a solder to the bar last time I took it there.

Man, that would be sweet! I would love to drive my car at a skate park. Very cool body raingler, one of the best on-road car paint jobs I have seen. You need to post that in the screensaver thread.

Yeah jumping on concrete is dangerous let alone trying to jump and pull off tricks at a public place like a skate park...one bad move and your wallet will be hurting...and possibly someone else.

Yeah, I guess we are lucky here. We don't go where others are already. (it's a pretty big place) Due respect creed applies. Usually, the riders will come and watch us, waiting for carnage, lol. I think it's a great way to expose more people to the RC world personally. I also would rather have my truck break a $10 part than myself break an ankle, but the good riders are really cool to watch in between runs anyhow.

i feel as long as you raise your body so when it lands you do bottom out with too much impact, and you add a bit of midair juice so you land level and not nose first, you're fine. I'll get some vid shortly of our runs.

cracking ribs on a handrail is a little discomforting but you know, it's so much fun to skate, a little pain now and then is expected. just ike downhill mountian biking. or marrage LOL but worth it.

i just run the stock ones as of right now. i've always just brought the front and rears in one more hole on the arms to give about 1/4 more and use the 1/2" spacers on the top to stiffen the spring up a bit. my rusty sets about 2.5" high and i also use the motor and give it a little juice so that the front comes up a bit more so i land flat. that's also a reason I am looking at masher2k for extra landing cushion. i'll play with the shocks once these have had it.

I have taken my trucks to the skate park twice. The first time, I forgot to charge the battery in my radio, opps. The second, the "skaters" didn't like me there when they showed up. Oh well, the skate parks around here are a joke anyways.

I'd try again personally. It's a lot of fun and I find the skaters are super interested in the trucks. I don't drive when they are riding for courtesy. Besides you gotta live up to your signature anyway.

I'd try those just for giggles! i better they're nice and grippy.

since i skate and can keep my weight with the other guys, most will chill while i drive the rusty there. it's such a small park so once my battery dies, we all get back to sk8ing. and yeah, it's a respect thing. if i'm at the park alone, and bikers come up to see if they can ride, i'll be cool with it but once gromes get there, or if the bikers start getting in my way, they've got to go. you should just ask the skaters if they mind you taking a few runs, see if you can chase one of them through their line or get there when it's early.

about those tires, i read the prices but are they like 32 each? wow. how are they at landing; asorb any impact?

They grip great, don't need glue, don't expand, and wear better than rubber... you should try them! I bet they would be awesome on concrete!

Some of those videos are pretty cool; I hope to take my 18T to one eventually, it rips and is almost indestructable (easily breakable parts are aluminum or RPM).

foams for parks is a no-no. i'm sure they're great for drift but drifting at a park could result in a broken truck. say this as after seeing the topic on two threads i visited a friends sk8 forum and ask the guys that that do this same thing and one old schooler says he's tried it. too much drifting is what he said. i can understand that after watching some of the vids on drifting at youtube. he said and i wouldn't try this, ride in a bowl jsut after you run yoru wheels through soda. sticky...too sticky for me i bet...

when i head towards this i gas it up and aim about 2' down the rail. then turn just at the last second, i can most of the time land chassis down and slide this for the rest of it. do you have things like to aim for at your park

give it shot, i can't do it on the round stuff but on the square tubes, it's take practice and i don't land every one. maybe one out of ten but it's fun. not so fast you break the car but moderate.
