I really would like to test drive one, but $600 + batts for something that can't top 20 mph, no way!

Does anyone remember when people were happy with the XL-1 Stampede going 23+mph (2 wheel drive). That was a monster truck, not a truck like a crawler. Here is this quote from the XL-1 Stampede Overview page:

"In the past, performance wasn't a requirement for monster trucks. As long as the truck looked big and bad, no one cared if it was slow or heavy. That was then, now this, is StampedeŽ, the first high-performance monster truck. It has the heart and thunder of a grizzly, with the speed and agility of a cheetah."

I know that people now are used to brushless going near and over 70mph but the XL-5 came out in 2006 not even 3 years ago it improved to 30+mph.

Started life as XL-1 then XL-5 now a VXL
