    I got a nitro stampede!

Its the old one. A lady down the street gave it to me and also a gallon of fuel. If i pull out the glow plug and try to start it should the glowplug get warm? It wasn't getting warm for me. It is in awesome condition. Also there was some fuel left it the tank. I got water and rinsed it out. Is that good enough. This my first nitro.

    Thanks Tyler.

as long as its dry. when you trird the glow plug, did you ground it to the head? if you used the ez start you will have to. if you have a glow starter you just put it in and if the plug and battery in the starter is good, it will glow

To be absolutely certain, touch the glow plug to the ground wire when starting. As for cleaning the tank, water is good, prop open the lid of the tank to help drying time.

If there was fuel sitting in the tank, I would replace all of the fuel lines. Fuel tubing is cheap, so there really is no reason not to swap it out. I would also examine the engine carefully... if they left fuel in the tank, they probably didn't perform the after run procedures. Also make sure to download the user manual for the Nitro Stampede and read it several times- especially the section on engine tuning.

Congradulations, though i dont personally own a Nitro Pede ive always wanted one. Im sure you know this forum is great for help and advice. I own a T-Maxx, A 3.3 nitro sport, and an old pro.15 rustler. Welcome to Nitro...prepare to get dirty, oily, gritty, and frustrated at times. I would reccomend an exhaust diflector as a near future upgrade...nitro fuel on the tires makes for great burnouts, but terrible traction. When i clean out a fuel tank, i take it off the car, spray it out with water, dry with compressed air, and then spray and shake some WD40 all around in there to help get the last of the water.
Sorry for the book.^ But again welcome to nitro and as always have fun with it.

Wow this has been a interesting start to nitro. I had to go up to my grandpa's on sunday so I brought the truck along. He has a hobbytown about 30mins from his house. We went there and got eveything I needed to get it running. I had to buy a new ez start system and a glow plug. Plus after run oil and a fuel bottle. I get back to my grandpa's and put everything on And try to start it up. It fires right up! I tune the low speed and kept the high speed at 2 1/2 turns. I set it on the ground to drive it and it take off at full throttle! After jumping a fence it finaly stopped. The reciever was no good after 4 feet.... It scared the poop outa me. But needless to say I had fun. I cant wait to get home from school tomorrow and try it out with a new radio system! Oh and thanks for all the help.

I had a runaway with my new Npede during break-in (part of the reason my engine runs like crap now). ALWAYS USE FRESH BATTERIES!

The batteries were fresh... Thats what I don't get. It was running pretty good then all of a sudden it goes full throttle. I don't think I have ever ran so fast in my life lol. It hit the ditch then flew out and over a 4foot high fence and landed upside down.

some people plug exhaust, while a few stop the flywheel. hopefully that helps a little.

Traxxas says to pinch the fuel line. I pinch both exhausts; I don't recommend touching the flywheel.

I pinch the fuel line to stop the engine... it gets most all of the fuel out of the engine, which makes after run procedures easier.

I pinch the fuel line most of the time;however, if need to stop the engine quickly I usually plug the exhaust.

Man it was fun tonight!!! I had ever neighborhood kid outside chacing it and when it would stall or die out, I would have one of them run to it and start it with the ez start. I ran a good 8 FULL tanks through it. Oh and also what is a good running temp. The motor got up to 268 and I shut it down. I dont have a hole in the window but i am going to put one in. On another note I Got a pretty good tune for running around but theres one problem. As soon as i hit the breaks it dies! so whats wrong with it? I messed around with it but I kept messin up my half way decent tune.

The Pro .15 is a pretty hot running engine. They run well at hotter temps then you're getting now! With that said, I don't recommend tuning by temps. Tune by performance.

Try adjusting your idle gap if your engine stalls when you hit the brake. That's the first thing I would check.

So whats a good operating tempature. I heard that anything above 280 is bad for the motor. I have a nice trail of smoke coming out the back so i gues I am ok. Also how do I adjust the idle gap?

That's for most engines. The pro.15 isn't like most engines.lol

You can get a pro.15 up to 300* with no ill effects. Try not to get too wrapped up in the temps. You just have to make sure that it isn't running too lean by the smoke trails and performance.

You adjust the idle gab by the idle screw. Look in the manual because it shows you all of that. Traxxas has it online if you don't have a manual.

I was told by an employee that the Pro .15 makes its best power around 285 degrees F, but that could be a little higher or lower depending on the conditions, the engine, etc. The highest temp that I would let a Pro .15 get to is 310 degrees F.

Well I ran it and tried to tune it so I could hit the breaks. I hade no luck at all and kept messing up my crappy tune. Also what I found wierd was. The temps never got over 230. I think i am running to rich cuz it is slow on the take off.
