    Poll: Replace Piston....Or Engine?

I know we are discussing this on my other thread, however i want to gauge the response from the rest of the users as to whether each individual prefers:

ERP- Engine replacement program - $110
    or
Piston Sleeve and Rod - $60 (ebay)

    Why?

WOW...have never seen piston/sleeve and rod that cheap before...normally your looking at ~ $90 to rebuild an engine...i say if you can, jump on the parts from ebay if they are still available that cheap...that way you can use the rest of the cash that would have gone towards the ERP on other upgrades...

    EDIT:
    3 still available for $60...
    piston/sleeve & rod (<-- click!)...

I'm guessing thats one vote for the sleeve combo!

...and hey! leave one on there for me, don't buy them all!

    More votes

    New engine.

    1. You also get a new carb, prevent headaches with air leaks and such.
    2. New crank and front bearings.
    3. New crankshaft.
    4. New crankcase.
    5. New cooling head.
    6. New pull start and backplate.

I rather have everything new then a new piston and sleeve then have something else fail on me.

are you sure it is $110 to replace because if you send in a 2.5 you get a 3.3 for $85 you would think it would be cheaper if you sent a 3.3 in

If you send ANY engine in + $85 dollars you get back a 2.5R.

I just got a new 3.3 that is going into one of my RC's and they are a bit different then the older 3.3's. the cooling heads are different, theres no holes inside where the plug goes. They seem to have better bearings too.. ive only done break in on it so far and it seems to be faster

I say get a new engine on ebay which go from $100 to 130 new which is pretty much the price of the ERP but the difference is that you get to keep your old engine

erp, you realy need to change those bearings. Less money and sorrow later.
You want to save, send the sleeve in for a pinch, $25 and run it till the rod breaks. Spend the $110 on ebay get a new 3.3, do what you want to w/the old one. Good learning tool.
By the way, whats wrong with it??

the connecting rod broke to start all of this, and ended up "erp"ing about a week ago. Just finished rebuilding, and breaking in/retuning tomorrow..I like the idea of ebaying a new one and keeping your old, there's always next time!

Thanks for the input all, handy thread

I would rather just replace it with a brand new engine anyway. I have rebuilt a number of engines but those engines where in the $300 to $400 range so it was cheaper to rebuild them but for a 3.3 or 2.5R your better off sending it in.
    I'm Baaaaaaack!

Do you have a picture of the new cooling head? I heard that they were different, but I have yet to actually see the difference.

the pic kinda sucks, I'll repost...the only real difference is the internal part of the cooling head is smooth...and yes I replaced the shoddy butt caps with a new opti cable...
