    how many of you?

hey guys and girls, men and women, i have a few questions and would like to see the response from people on here. how many of you race off-road r/c? how many of you build r/c crawlers? how many of you race on-road r/c or carpet race? Im looking to try and get together a business plan to present to a loan office regaurding a business. It would have a shop like any or most other hobby shops. But with an indoor place to do all of the things i asked in the above. It would hold weekly competitions and or races. there would however be a track fee not sure on the amount yet tho. This track fee would cover the winnings to be given out (tropghys and gift certificate prizes), electricity to heat/light the building, for the racers to use also for charging batteries, maintenance to the courses, etc. it would be indoor which means that there can be all year round racing. it would have a course set up for each of the above mentioned circuits. now the question is how many people would like to see something like this? how many would be interested in having a place like this available to them. please leave feedback positive or negative. thank you for your time.

I used to race quite a bit, but then tracks around me got closed down.
There are still a couple of tracks, but the nice one is now gone and I won't drive more than an hour to the Nitro Pit which, IMO, is the nicest track in the Phoenix area.

Good luck with your endevour. It's a lot of work to get a track started and get a group of people to race there. Check the interest in your area. I definately won't be driving to Arlington, WA for a race but maybe there are racers in your area that would love to have a nice facility for racing.
Are there any tracks or hobby shops in your area? I wouldn't expect them to be very supportive of any future competition.

You'll need customers to pay the rent and pay for the heat and those lights you're talking about. Materials to build this track will get costly as well.
Might want to start by building a website to help gauge interest in your area. It's a lot cheaper than building a facility and looking for customers later.
    It boils down to this...
How popular is R/C racing in Arlington, WA?
I know it's very popular here in Phoenix, but the tracks are always struggling to stay afloat.

jrfink, yeah im not expecting to do it right now but in the near future hopefully. r/c is pretty big around here but there are only two places to race one of which is summer time only the other is about 2hrs away the nearest hobby shop is 10 miles in another town. and the website idea i will have to give a try maybe my brother can help there he is really good with that sort of thing.

i mostly run on-road, and would like to see an RC park that has both a paved flat course as well as an off-road style course with jumps

I used to be really into racing. I got the very first RC10 with the *new* stealth transmission when they came out. . . I had over $3500 into one car and support equipment, but I dropped out when the main track I ran at changed from using dirt birms to mark out the track to heavy 6" PVC pipe. I know that allot of places use that, but at the time the owner was bragging about how many more parts he was selling due to people hitting the pipe. Not a cool attitude. (Corrigated flexible pippe is better!) That place went under about 2 years later. Another track I ran at still in busness. The reasons they are successful at this is:
    1. ANY manufacturer of vehicle is welcome, in it's appropriate class. They encourage new participants (future customers) by not putting down or having a snobby attitude about their entry level equipment, and make realistic and usefull suggestions for upgrades.
    2. The track is also a hobby shop, and they stock high breakage parts for as many vehicle types as they can.
    3. Regular track maintenance is performed.

Can't ask for much more than that, really.

well, just from hearing the different classes, you are goin to need an enormous warehouse to house all the tracks (if you plan on doing them all)

also, by doing it indoors, unless you have planned ventilation, you are forced to become strictly electric

and also for maitenance, if you are going to change the dirt track, work up the money and rent a bobcat, my track is too cheap to buy one of those nice gater 4x4s by john deere so instead they buy abunch of lawnmowers and take off the blades (totally waste of money) and also they expect the loyal racers to help fix it in hot south florida. another important thing is welcome all classes, my track is way too strict with roar rules, my 2 friends have J82s (AE T4 w/buggy fronts) but they are waiting on me to get one so they try to get into the stock truck class, instead they force em to either run with 1/8th nitro buggy or not run, really low class.
..and when I looked to the left I saw a parked car

I use to race, and I was actually very active in it untill the guys at my track started acting like jerks. Thats when I decided to walk away and just enjoy my trucks. I still show up for a race every now and then. I guess the guys with the high dollar buggies and MTs were just getting mad that I was beating them with my Hyper 7 and my Maxx when I had it.
