Dirt/Mud guard for the rear a-arms (like the truggies have)

Ok so Sunday is looking wet like the rest of this summer has been so I figured I'd get this mod done now so I don't have 20lbs of mud built up on my rear a-arms from the kick up on the front tires.. this has been a problem racing all year, well no more! I took a set of losi guards and trimmed them down a touch, drilled a couple well placed holes and a handful of zip ties and she's ready to rock and roll.

I used those for awhile on my revo and supermaxxes but I found out that the thin rubber is a lot better. More flexible and lighter. Just go to HD or Lowe's and buy a roll, cut it to size and tie them in place with zipties. Keeps my UE racerx suspension looking new

i do not thing the top cover will be needed. I will just make a front cover for mine and we compare next time we go to yamato?

And to the rest of you, You cover the whole back or just the front and back? Great pics jarrad

just wondering, if we seal it up like the way Hoov has it, will it keep sand out for sand bashing???

Well, his is pretty good but there are some cracks and theres a hole for the turnbuckle deals lol. but if you wait till tomorrow i am currently working on using some nice rubber/foam. I'll try and get it all done tomorrow and if it looks like posting ill post it. Thatd be tight to get it to be able to bash in the sand, but sand is one nasty thing, no matter what you do you risk getting some in there and grinding everything to dust.

mine were put on to cover the front and the top. The bottom and the back are still exposed.

I dont think they will keep sand out.

I made them to keep wet clay out. When the wet clay hits the driveshaft it sticks like crazy. Between the driveshafts and the wheels I was using my truck easily gained 4lbs in wet dirt when I was on the track. This caused my driveshafts to break

so I figured I would try this.

I never updated.... Mine worked great for 1 race.. then the zip ties start breaking and you have to remove them or just redo them. You only need this on the front side of the rear arms, you want to have as little effect in your suspension as possible.

It doesnt seem to have an effect on my suspension. All of the top zip-ties are tight, but I leave the bottom one loose to slide around on the lower arm.

What other ways can it effect my suspension?

I made some for my nitro revo out of plexi glass and they worked good......till I did some major bashing

. Make sure that if you make dirt guards that you either dont use zip ties on the lower arm or make if you do to leave them loose enough it doesn't bind the suspension since the arms change dimensions when at full upwards travel.

when i get home later ill post some pics of the stuff im using. I'm going to use a nice flexible rubber or a foam. Either way i think its going to work great. I'll keep you guys updated on how it goes.

This right here is the single best mod I have done.. set pins on the steel ringed traxxas knuckles to keep them ball retainers from backing out...

I have a thread out there somewhere with the full details.. just do a search.

Another good one is the jato shock boots.. simple thing yet is awesome at keeping your shocks working properly and not all gummed up w/ crud from the track.

its called get shock socks from badhorsie.com. i ordered some, should be coming pre soon. Thats also another solution to keep them running good

edit: and for the mud guards, im not going to post my pics yet until i find out really how well they work. unless you guys want to see how i did it. otherwise ill post later.

The set screw thing has been around for awhile. Good idea though and works great. If your not to crazy about doing that though you can take thread tape (like used on air compressors and such to avoid air leaks) and it works great aswell. I did it last winter and still no loose pivot balls adjusters.

I have Bad horsie shock sockz on my revo and they work great to. Really the only reason I got them was because I didn't like the color of the red springs and I didn't want to take the coating off of them and then use clear coat on them to keep em from rusting.

Well, here are my mud guards i have installed. They slide GREAT with the suspension. Can't wait to take it out tomorrow and see how it handles the dirt and stoof. 1 side is different from the other, i like the back right side better, i just have 2 ties on the top and none on the bottom, and on the other side i have 1 on the top and 1 on the bottom, i think ima change it. but anywheres heres da pics:

And the last pic is a "little" project that im working on. The 2 with holes are for the battery wires, and im going to put some screening on it to keep rocks out. No idea how its going to work, but reason i am re-routing the battery wires through the vent is cuz i took the battery cover off, and im making my own one. WILL POST PICS hopefully TOMORROW!!!

Ok, so the consensus on the top plate is that it's not needed, then?
Here's what I managed with the leftover lexan from the wheel cutouts:

These are actually a pretty wise idea considering I tore up one of the blue driveshaft boots on my e-maxx running it in wood chips. Something like this woulda kept that from happening.

No, you dont need the top pieces.

I had them, and they did keep the sliders cleaner, but the front is where most of the mud collects.

Now that I have CVD's...I dont need the guards. The shaft is much thinner and doesnt hold onto nearly as much crap.
