    Exclamation Stripped glow plug

Just as the title says I stripped out the glow plug on my TRX 2.5 Engine. Being a newbie I am freaking out because I have no clue what to do. Any help would be appreciated. The one part that I do not need help on is telling me not to overtighten it I have figured that one out myself and just need to know how to fix it. Thanks in advance.

Your going to need a new cooling head if you stripped out the glow plug threads. EBay - about $10.00
    No slipper/tall gearing/power = broken parts.

And make sure there aren't any metal shavings on the piston when you take the head off!

If you stripped out the threads, as it sounds like you did, you'll need a new head. Remove it, check the piston and crankcase for any metal shavings and flush/clean it. Put the new plug in (don't overtighten it! Heeheehee--couldn't resist) put the head on and go.
Lesson learned. And by doing the work yourself, you'll gain a lot of knowledge how the engine works. Do not worry.

Does the new cooling head include the spring that came out with the glow plug when I noticed it was stripped?

    Spring???
I can't be certain but, It sounds like you may have purchased a used engine/truck and someone else stipped the glow plug hole and repaired it with a Heli-coil.
    You got any pics??
If thats the case. you can try installing a new heli-coil for the thread repair but they are not easy to come by. I believe the threads are 1/4 x 32.
I have repaired a few stripped glow holes before and while they will work, Heli-coils tend to leak at the plug gasket and sometimes will back out of the cooling head.
You're best bet is to buy a new cooling head. No "spring" is needed or involved. If your replace the head I recommend replacing the head gasket as well.

When I noticed that it was stripped I pulled out the glow plug and it had a spring stuck to the end of it. If that is the case would this work to fix it?

There is a small coiled element inside the glow plug.
Thats what heats up when current is applied.

Is that what you are talking about?

No that is still their and the glow will light but the coil was on the outside at the base of the threads.

    Probably a Heli-coil then.
No, you don't need to save it.

Yes, those cooling heads on ebay with fix your problem.

I'm not sure about the 2.5 but I assume that it has a head gasket too. See if the head comes with one, if not, get one.

Actually, I wouldn't. Aftermarket heads make the engine run too cool so you will never know if you are running too lean.

Get a 2.5R head off a ebay chop-shop. Cheapest(and really the best) way out.

Yeah, just get a 2.5 or 2.5r head. you don't want to have to lean out your engine to get temps up when those big heads make it run too cool.

Or just upgrade to a 3.3 and solve the problem and get bigger engine.

Agreed. You can get a new head for pretty cheap.

I don't know which Ebay you are looking at but you can get the 2.5r Powertune cooling head for under $40.00 on Ebay Buy it now and shipped....

I don't get the point of tapping a head for a larger plug... I don't think that's going to run very well.
