    High Speed Chase Video!

Decided to try something I hadn't seen yet. I got in the back of my wife's pick-up and tried to see how fast I could go. On dirt we maxed out at 45. The rear tires kept breaking loose and at the end of it I wrecked and tore the left front tire in half. For the pavement runs I put the HPI geolanders on the front. We reached 60 before the truck became unstable due to the Geolanders ballooning out. Be sure to rate the videos and let me know what you think. "Watch in High Quality" should be available later this morning.

It was Awesome! Definitely brought to mind that I need to upgrade the radio to something with proportional steering rates that I can dial out! At those speeds a twitch of the hand translates to HUGE lane changes.

Wow! That dirt road video is one of the best RC vids I've seen!! Love the jump at 2:10, then the huge slide afterwards. Awesome video. Paved Road was very fast.

    5 stars each!!

Both videos are by far some of the best Slash related videos I have to seen to date. Excellent work on your truck and the videos Skulli. What setup are you running? I run Velineon 3500/VXL-3s along with SPC 7-Cell packs, with 23/86 gearing and seem to top out around 50 mph on pavement, and about 30 or so in the grass. In all seriousness though, is there really ANY reason for these trucks to even do half the speed they do? I just cant get over how awesome the Slash is. I have only ran about 6 packs through my truck, and the tread on my rear tires is almost gone. Amazing little (and by little I mean HUGE) truck that Traxxas has on their hands.

I would definately like to see a similar video with a Maxx. Preferably brushless. Just to see the suspension working.

Thanks M.Prower, I appreciate the comments!

Both vids were shot with the VXL motor/esc running on a Trakpower Gold 5400 3s lipo with 23/86 gearing. I believe that drafting behind the pickup allowed me to get it up to above 60. It cut down on the wind alot! Normally, if I just try a speed run down the street the body will catch air and flip at about 3/4 throttle.

As far as speed, you're correct. Half of that is fast enough with this truck. I just boughta VXL Bandit to take care of my speed freak needs...

The dirt road vid ranks up there as one of the best. Nice!

BTW - Where do you live??? Hazzard County? I haven't seen roads like that since watching ol' Bo & Luke Duke getting chased by Sheriff Rosco P. Coltrane!

LOL It's funny you should say that, my wife said I should have used Waylan's Hazzard song for that! These were shot at my buddy's ranch in Llano county here in Texas.

Yep, but I'm fairly sure that drafting behind the pickup helped. Gonna try it next weekend with the Slash and my new VXL Bandit. If I could find a clear body for the Slash I could paint it General Lee style and get a caprice cop body for the bandit! hmmmm...

Temps on the dirt road got up to 200, but on pavement it stayed at 170ish. I figure with the controlled spin of the rear tires on loose dirt that motor rpm's were higher.

That was a great video. I gave it 5 stars. With some of those close-ups it was like watching the Baja from a chase helicopter. I hope you feel honored every time someone copies your video stylings. I know I'm gonna be trying that out at the desert. I just hope the lead vehicle doesn't kick up too much roost
    When in doubt, throttle out!

    Thank you very much!

I can't wait to see your results. I would highly recommend using a strap across the bed of your lead vehicle to help hold you in. We used a ratchet strap between the tie-down points in the back of my wifes pickup. it acted as a restraint to keep us from sliding off of the tailgate.

    Be safe and have fun!

If I remember correctly it was a driver for Associated that did the driving and it was a nitro converted RC10. I went and bought that same Parma '63 Vette body after I saw that scene.

    Here's the clip:

    Dead Pool RC Chase Scene

    !!UPDATE!!

Here's what I found on IMDB:

"A modified 1/10 scale 2wd Associated RC10 off road racer with an off-the-shelf Parma International 1963 Chevrolet Corvette body was used in the famous chase scene in which "Dirty Harry" Callahan is being pursued through the streets of San Francisco, California by a highly explosive bomb disguised as an R/C car. The "bomb" was driven by world-champion race driver Jay Halsey. The car was in fact was sold with an electric motor being a competition model, which for cars in that scale was at that time only sold and permitted to enter competitions with electric motors; the internal combustion engine soundtrack were added in post-production."

DUUUUDE...awesome!!! Those are great! I've asked my wife drive me with the car but she's too chicken....haha that's why I made the cam mount.

The on road is great drafting the truck...I've had to add weight to the front end to keep it down at 3s speed...which obviously slows it down...I'm assuming the lower air pressure helps keep the front down...

    WAY good job!

and EXCELLENT find with the Dead Pool clip...been looking for that for YEARS...!!!

    .

I'm fairly certain that the pick-up helped block the wind. Usually at 3/4 throttle the body catches the air and flips on it's lid.

BTW, thanks for the praise. Coming from you that's quite the compliment!

skulli - Coolest RC video I've seen yet. and ya it did look like a camera shot from a heli. Two trucks would cool to watch also. You just sold me on getting a slash. Was this just stock +the VXL? or was there hop ups added? thanks - wife's gonna kill me...

Thanks for the comments! And I know all about wives and threats of violence to the nether regions...

My Slash has the aluminum bellcrank steering and aluminum turnbuckles. I've added the VXL system and running 3s lipos. I also picked up a set of Axial rocksters with HPI Geolander tires. I blew out a front tire on the offroad wreck, so I put the geolanders on the front for the pavement vid.

You will not be disappointed with the Slash, stock or brushless, it is a blast to run!

i loved them both. make more vids please.
jus rembered sumthin if u want less balooning, when u rebuild ur tires use duct tape on the inside of the tire to help prevent that.
