So how's the Slash with a 8.4 batt in it , stock gearing ...pretty quick ? , faster than a stock Stampede XL-5 ? I like the fact its brusless ready so when i'm ready I can upgrade .

if the stampede has the same 12 turn motor and battery then it should be about the same

Well, Slash is half a pound heavier....
thats what i ment by "about"... yeah its 1/2 lb heavier but it has a different roll out ratio

i just looked at some information and the gear ratio of the stampede gives alittle bit more top speed and the overall diameter of the stampede's tires is bigger and the stampede's less weight i have to say that the stampede should be faster

One flaw to your logic konaman.....Tire size don't always equate bigger being faster. Generally, if you geared a slash and a pede with the same spur/pinion gear, the one with the larger tire would be slower, in this case the pede would be slower. Larger tires/wheels take more power to spin and travel a futher distance per revolution that also requires more power to turn. That is why the gearing differs between the slash and pede so that it can be optimised for the size of tire/wheel combo used.
Now it really comes down to the gearing and wieght. Which in this case is a trade off. The pede has an edge for being lighter, but is running a larger wheel/tire package. The Slash's edge is the smaller wheel/tire package that allows quicker acceleration due to the reduced mass of the smaller wheels tires and that 1/2 pound of wieght might actually help plant those tires better.
Just bench racing here, but with the same battery used in both, the race in my mind is pretty close. Anybody actually put one up against the other in a race?
yeah but with the larger tires on the pede it will have a higher top speed but will suffer on take off...
you can try it if you have a pair of sedan wheels and tires... put it on a slash or pede and you'll notice that you have all the take off speed and wheel spin but top speed will suck
the stock gears on a pede is 19/90 and slash is 18/86 and gear ratio is only 0.041 different so its down to weight and tire diameter

oh yea the pede still has bushings and the slash is full ball bearing... so h*ll somebody just test the two and get it over with

They are about the same, one may be slightly faster but thats it
What am I supposed to write in 50 characters?
What about the lunar phase! Seriously.. same motor, same esc, similar speed.
Traxxas racing!
On the Traxxas site it says for both Stampede and Slash...
30mph+*
* With 7-cell battery and included optional 23-tooth pinion gear.
.
Plethora of brushless stupidity.
thats what i was saying... they are about the same speed then everybody was say how bout this how bout that so i considered it... then now i am in the insane house

Hey Konaman, I'm in Fort Smith too, and just got a Slash today. Taking it to the track tomorrow to mess around with it. Man the suspension is soft on these things!
Oh hey Chris....lol. I looked at your profile and realized it was you. Picked up the Slash today. John said he's sold 11 of them already.
I thought all stock spur gears were 86t?Originally Posted by konaman

yeah the spurs on the pede are 86t
With a good 7 cell battery and stock gearing I say it is pretty quick.
As far as stampede vs slash. The difference is minimal. If you drove them yourself at separate times I don't think you'd notice much difference.
This is a stock slash on stock gearing on a 7 cell.

hey guys , well I picked up my Slash last nite , what a great truck . I think its really fast stock . I ran it with a 4200 7 cell . I wasn't expecting it to be and had already planned to buy a VXL kit for it , but im going to leave it stock for now 19/86 gearing , it was spinning the tires with the 7 cell ! Now my Stampede is geared 16/86 with an Orion 15T , its quick but I don't think it will touch the Slash , Slash seemed much faster . Great truck tho , well built I love the waterproof stuff and the tires . it handles amazing , it was built for handling with the soft suspension . all in all you can't go wrong for $200 .

I also just picked up my truck, just waiting on my order from Maxamps. Can't wait to try it out.
