    Question Scrap steel prices?

My dad and I were taking out some old galvanized pipe, and it got me wondering. What is the current price of scrap steel? I could get a least ton easily. I know steel prices are quite high now, so I would just like to know what I could get for rusty old steel. I googled it but found nothing that could help me. Thanks!

Around here its at like $180-210 per ton of steel. But thats if its cut into 3 feet chunks or less. Otherwise its like $150 a ton.

What you need to find is copper, copper is going for about $4 a pound.

Yeah, tell me about it. Up here in upstate NY, we are having problems with people stealing the copper plumbing pipes out of people's summer homes. That's why we don't use copper anymore for plumping. It is pretty much all plastic now.

Ok, back to the steel. $150 a ton ah? Shucks, I was hoping it would be like double that. I don't own the property, so I would have to give a cut back to the owner. Then I would have to split what is left with my dad. Oh yeah, then the $$$ fuel for our F-350 bringing it to the scrap yard. Totally not worth it in the long run unless I can get a LOT of steel out of there......

Unless you cut it all into 3 foot lenghts then you might get any where from $200-250 a ton depending on what the price is where you live.

Yeah, but that would be a HUGE amount of work and time.

It isn't easy to cut steel pipe. Especially in bulk like that.
