Just got a blast.. Dissapointingly slow..

I just got a blast and its slower than I thought it would be. I'd like to mod it a bit but don't know what I need. What is the best prop? Can I run a lower turn motor/7 cell pack on the stock ESC?

Also the coupler from the driveshaft keeps popping off in the water, leaving the boat stranded.. Any good fix for this?

You could run down to a 19-turn motor with the stock ESC, but it is not designed to be used with a seven cell pack.

I have a 10 turn team orion revolution motor and a Cyclone ESC in Mine and its still not fast like it should be, I would only guess it would need a brushless system to be fast. The brushless motor has alot more power than a regular motor so maybe !

Its a small boat, you only want it to go so fast or it will become pretty unstable. I was actually surpised when I got my blast I thought it did fairly well or such an inexpensive boat.

If you want a fast electric boat go with the SV27 brushless. That thing is awesomly fast.

I have seen videos of 19-turn Spec motor powered Blasts, and they look to go pretty good. If I had a Blast, I'd eventually stick a 19-turn in there and call it good after using the Stinger for a while.

I don't know why people keep bringing up stability. I KNOW it will be unstable. I don't really care. Anyways which prop shoul I get for it? Octura X440?

If you install a water cooling kit, the X440 might work okay. I have read about how the performance definitely gets better, but the motor gets pretty hot with that prop. Just keep an eye on the temperature of your electronics. \

You say slow. Like how many MPH slow is the Blast? Just curious because I want to get 1 or 2 of them.

Id say mine is right around 15-18mph range. Its not blazing but its fast enough on the water to be fun.

Those speeds sound about right, Jason. I have heard Traxxas employees give speed ratings in the upper teens.

But, 18 mph seems faster out on water than it does with a land car.

Yes it does. Things on the water alway seem faster. A real boat that does 70 is fast, but a car going 70 is nothing.

I'd say mine runs in that same range of 15-18 mph.

If you're willing to spend a little money, you could get a new ESC and a new motor The Octura prop with a Marine Titan and a decent ESC should get a Blast moving pretty well.

The problem is that I do not believe that you could cram a 550 sized motor in there. The motor compartment on the Blast is very compact.

I just checked the gallery picture of the Blast and WOW that thing is crammed....Yeah, a 19T 540 is probably the best bet.

About a year ago I had thought about getting a Blast and putting a Mamba Max 4600 in it but people said it would overpower the hull and it wouldn't be very stable. It's not cheap, but the MM motors are short (when I got mine to replace the Stinger in my Rustler I was amazed that it was actually shorter than the Stinger) and if you upgrade the prop and run on lower voltage (6/7 cells or 2s lipo) and spray the PCBs down to make sure they're waterproofed it would be interesting to see how it works out.
