Newbie with no intentions of racing E-revo or E-maxx?

Just like the subject line says. I'm looking to get a new r/c car to bash around with in my back yard, local skate park, or sand pit. I have no intentions to ever race. My last R/C was a Savage .25 and I realized I'm not a fan of Nitro. It's a been a couple years and no I'd like to get back into it. Suggestions?

How much do you want to spend and how fast do you want to go? The E-maxx will satisfy, but the E-revo will conquer everything. The Revo has the sweet suspention setup so you can handle great! I have also heard that e-maxx's are less durable than the revos.

erevo is far more durable if you can wait for it.. handling is better, everything is better. There really is no part of an emaxx that is better in any way than the the erevo. There are a couple of the same parts on them both(tranny, Rx) but that is it.

Honestly price wise, I wasn't sure. The e-savage was tempting (gasp I know) because of it's price point and my somewhat of a familiarity with the product since I owned a nitro savage (I know they are very different). The new E-maxx had caught my eye and the price was similar to the E-savage. Until I realized it needed batteries and a charger. I've pretty much settled in on buying some spec 7 cells (I think thats right) and a good charger. Now I see that the E-revo is only a $100 more and is going to be waterproof too. Basically I'm all confused. I do know many people are very brand/model loyal in this hobby. I just want something that isn't going to break and be durable. Top speed is not a requirement. Heck...I keep reading about brushless systems and lipo batteries. I have no idea what that means!

Honestly wait for the erevo, you will not be disappointed it is WAY better than either the esavage or emaxx those two I would class as nearly equal to each other, with a little favor to the emaxx 3905 for being water proof. Again the erevo out classes them both by leaps and bounds.

Any of the systems will run great on those 7cell SPC packs, great packs as far as nimh go. I would HIGHLY recommend getting a Hyperion charger so you can move to lipo or a123 down the road if you want to.. worth the few extra $$'s to get the 0606i ac/dc version.

    Good Luck!

Great...all day tomorrow at work I'll be researching e-revo's. LOL

Hows the MRC Superbrain compared to the hyperion charger?

90% of the people who buy the superbrain wish they had listened and got the Hyperion b-p-p.com has them at a very reasonable price, w/ free shipping

I am one of those who regretted buying the superbrain. I have owned two, both were junk. I now own two hyperions and couldn't be happier. These are the finest chargers for the money in my opinion and far more user friendly than the super brain.

I have the Superbrain 989 and it has been nothing but great, it will do up too 8 cell lipo and 20,000mAh. I have never owned a hyperion but i have heard good things about them. The 989 is user-friendly and easy to use, it comes with a D/C power supply so you can charge up too 10 amps. It has plenty of power to spare incase you ever need it, and in this hobby its always better to have more power than you need lol

I know I probably shouldn't even ask...but is there a good charger for just NiMh. If down the road I move to lipo (honestly I don't think I will my legs aren't that fat) then I'll revaluate the situation and sell my current charger so I can upgrade. I just want something to charge nimh batteries up to 8.4v 7 cells.

The best NiMh chargers happen to be some of the best LiPo chargers. So the hyperion is defiantly one of the best, if not the the best.

I guess that answers that. What LBA10 Adapters would I need with the Hyperion?

How about battery break-in? What exactly is that?

    I'm such a newb.

Just buy one of the newer hyperions with the built in balancer. I own two of the AC/DC versions and they are great. Battery break in isn't really necessary, your truck will handle it for you.

Will I have to charge one battery at a time or can it charge two batteries at once? That will seem like a long wait if I end up buying 4 batteries to start.

Been said already, but go with the E-REVO. Everything said here is true. More durable and handles like a dream. Nothing can touch a REVO or E-REVO.

You can get the hyperion duo and charge two at a time or buy two chargers like I did. I wanted two to have a backup just in case as well.

Thats a bummer...that doubles the cost...looks like I'll have to work on my patience.

Still no idea if I'd need to order any LBA10 adapters?

revo6.6, The revo can be an amazing basher too. Best of both worlds if you ever decide to compete.

I have a Dynamite Prophet Plus which would suit your needs for a cheap NiMH charger. Click for Details. I bought that charger when I first got into RC and I still use it to this day for charging my NiMH packs (I have a Hyperion as well, but that Prophet charges just as well and this way I do 2 packs at once). It wouldn't be a bad idea to start off with it, I can charge a pack with it then stick it on my Hyperion and it says it's done. Hyperion chargers are excellent though, I've had mine about a year and done hundreds of charges with it and it is great, I'd buy another one in a heartbeat (I'm eyeing the 0610DUO for when I get my A123 packs so I can charge both at the same time).

The Hyperion Duo is the 0610, right? And it's not AC/DC, only DC?

Looking for a dual NiMH charger that I can plug into the wall at home..

DC only. So figure on about another 50-100 for a power supply. But IMHO, its worth it. Just do it and don' think about it. That way, when your not looking and all of a sudden you have 4 or 6 lipos you'll be like "Man, I am glad I got this dual charger so that I can always have a set or two on backup."
    I don't have a witty signature.

*wait i have a question, can the hyperion 0606i charger charge 2 batterys at once? if not, then is there a dual charger that is equal or near equal to the greatness of that charger? lol

because it charges at a constant 3.5 amps and the only other option to change to is 1.5 amps for the reciever pack. the hyperion can charge a greater variety of packs and has many other options and features .

So again, does anyone know of a hyperion dual charger that is at least nearly as good as the 0606i that i can plug up in the house? an AC/DC dual charger would be awesome if there is one

The Hyperion will charge 14 cells of NiCD/NiMH and 6 Cells of Lipo or A123.

If you have two 7 cell pack of NiMH's, it will charge them both at the same time with a Series Adapter.

Same for two 3 cell packs of Lipo/A123. You'll need the Series Adapter and a Balancing Y Adapter for these packs, as you'll want to make sure the cells are balanced.

Any combination of cells up to the chargers limit of 14 NiCD/NiMH or 6 cells of Lipo/A123 can be charged on the Hyperion 0606i.

I just bought the Hyperion Duo and am selling a Superbrain 989 on Ebay. What would you guys recommend for a power supply for it? Would the power supply that I had with my brain work for it? Thanks

Going back to the origional Maxx/Revo question, I have both an old EMaxx and one of the new ones. Both are awesome, but I really wish that they were easier to work on, especially in terms of shock adjustments.

To be honest it is a hard decision for someone in your position. The ERevo is set to be the ultimate electric Monster Truck, but the Emaxx is still a brilliant truck, and if you want something now, and the Emaxx is affordable I wouldn't advise against it. If you don't mind waiting and paying a bit more, the ERevo will perform a little better and be nicer to work on

EDIT: I recently got a Hyperion E0S0606i (something like that) and it really is the best charger I've ever had. I will fo 14 NiMH cells so it can charge 2 packs.

For the power supply I would get one from an electronics supply store or use a p/c supply. Both are much better than the MRC PS and cost less to the same amount. A friend just picked a a professional quality 15 amp PS from a local electronic store in Houston for $50.00, only 5 more than what the MRC costs.

The DUO is DC only. And don't sell the power supply from the MRC. I have two MRC 977s. Very good Nimh chargers that can do two packs at a time. They will do LiPo, but they max out at 2.5amps per channel. Takes a long time to reload 8K packs at that rate. And you need a seperate balancer for the 977. Astro Blinky works well. The 977 is a little easier to use and a lot easier on the wallet. About $100 and you can take care of your Nimh needs. The DUO is a much better charger for LiPo and Nimh, but takes a little more effort to operate. I borrowed one of the MRC 12v (13.5V) 10A power supplies to fed the DUO. It stays cooler feeding the DUO when its doing 2 8K LiPos at 8 amps than it did when the 977 was pushing 4 amps to a pair of Nimh. Get a MRC 977, and then pick up the Hyperion DUO when it fits the budget. That should keep you covered.

Thanks, you've answered my million dollar question!

Guess I'll be picking up the 0606i with a pair of SPC 7-cells.

Where do I get the Series Adapter? (That's the fiddy dollah question!)
