This was mine before I sold it. the battery was zip tied to the bottom of the chassis for a lower cg(it actually works really well!!!). If you have both stock skid plates you can run a wooden ruler in between the the holes in the skid plate and put something like foam in between the battery and the ruler to protect the battery.

Here is my Monster Slash VXL. Had to trim the body to fit these 14 cm (5.5") diameter wheels. ...Oh, and gear down to 19/90 so I didn't end the life of my Velineon motor!
