Sony Handycam video transfer please HELP!!

    Hi,

I have a sony handy cam model no. DCR-HC42E....
This thing records such wicked video quality and the quality is outstanding when i play it through our 42" Plasma via the AV Cables, However i am having issues getting any decent quality onto PC via the USB 2.0 cable, not sure why...
I would rather not have to worry about buying a firewire cable but if it is the only way...

Wondering if any body can point me to some nice software or other methods of getting the best quality possible onto my PC for editting!!

Also it is being recorded from a DV tape.

    Thanks!

its becuase your using a USB 2.0 cable. You should be using a firewire cable such as this. Its what i use to transfer from a handycam to my mac and PC for video editing.

I think when you bring in from the 2.0 its notreading off the tape but the memory stick. Not sure tho.

When you bring the video over, are you dragging it, ir is the tape playing and the computer recording?
