what does it mean if your trx 3.3 engine will start up, run for about 5 minutes of run time, and then die and you have to let it cool off?
thanks![]()
if i try to tune it while it is running, then it dies...![]()

Sounds like it's overheating and/or has an air leak. If you haven't arleady, try setting it back to factory specs & replace all fuel tubing with new, and go from there..Originally Posted by revo_maniack
cant hav my sig anymor becus it was over 3 lines?!
If it keeps on doing that sounds like the motor is done needs to be rebuildOriginally Posted by revo_maniack
im sending the whole truck into traxxas later today, and they are going to take a look at it... so that is where all the problems that it has will come out i guess...
You don't need to send the entire truck to them.
i called them and they said to send the whole entire truck because they wanted to start it up and drive it around and see wat the prob was... oh well
prob is that it will take like 2 weeks fo them to get it and test it and then ship it back... well more like 2 and 1/2 weeks for them to get it back to me. and then if there is a problem, then they ship it back and then tell me and then i have to ship the engine in and do the ERP so that i can get a new engine... then it has to ship back to me.... uuuugggghhhh!
oh well it is worth it for this hobby... it is like an addiction, and it is not a bad one luckily!!!
Don't send the truck in just yet. Try adjusting the Low Speed Needle before you go and spend extra money for nothing.
well anything i try to tune, it just dies. if i put it back to factory it wont start. if i change anything at all it dies... not to mention that i cant do full throttle, or else she will stall and die... there goes another 5 minutes of wasted time!!!oh well...
If your engine dies after 5 minutes, odds are the sleeve is worn out to the point that when it expands you lose too much compression and it dies.
yeah that is what i thought too. i just wanted to be sure before i went and bought a new engine.
peace
to me it sounds like your using one needle to compensate for the other... try turning the high speed up about a 1/4 turn and the lean the low speed by 1/16-1/8 then retry and go from there, when the cut out or stall at high speed its caused by a lean high speed, and if it stalls at low throttle after it is warm then I would say the lowspeed needle is to lean. Even if you send it to traxxas and they tune it for you an engine can loose its tune day to day and really the process of tuning is a day to day experience with nitro that you just hae to get used to.
I LIKE STAMPEDES, BUT I LIKE TMAXXS' BETTER
BEN
My 2.5 was dying after it got too hot and the only thing I can think was the problem was a stripped out block off in the carb and a bad head gasket. Fix both of those and it no longer dies at low speed. Check the glow plug gasket too and clean off the head surface to make sure it seals right. Just enough lost compression will suck the life right out of these motors and then they shut off.Originally Posted by revo_maniack
sorry i was gone for a while...
ialready sent it in. if i tuned it all then it would either die, or not start. so if i put it at stock settings it wouldnt start, and i would have to play with it. i will be getting a new engine soon anyways, so thanks for all the help!!!
