My only comments are, you did a VERY nice job, I'm sorry people have been so rude to your ideas mods and creations. IMO you've done very good. Happy new year Jato75. Take care, and make sure you spend some quality time with your daughter on new years!

Please do not PM me about buying a set of these gears. Traxxas rules state it is against policy to sell them on this forum. Sorry folks.

I have to follow the rules.

As for how it runs, i've never gone faster. I was flat out shocked. I don't have a radar gun that works right now, but I just got a bushnell off of ebay,(I should have it in a week or so...hopefully) so the next warm day i get I'm gonna clock it....I did take it over to my buddies house and he got a stock 3.3 for christmas, and i walked away from him in a race like he was an old school electric rc10 running against a 3.3.

It had huge take off and it was flat out ballistic. I think the key to it was having the larger rotating mass gear.

I'm betting mid 80's easy with the 2 speed....maybe more?..i started to run outta room, and was still building speed.

Thanks for the kind words, Miami!
    Happy New Year!

i'm glad to see 75 and outlaw aren't argueing anymore. i just now read the last 2 pages of that other thread and saw what happened. everyone got a little carried away. glad to see that guy not give anyone warning points.

that is a really good gear you and your helper made.

    happy new year.

So is it a steel gear, or did you mod a revo gear to fit on a CB???

Think in a previous thread about it jato75 says something along the lines of he built it from scratch in a friends workshop, can't remember what it was made of though...

no, the revo gear is the wrong pitch to use on a 40t clutchbell with something like a 53t spur...the revo gears are a metric 1.0 pitch and the Jato uses a .8 metric pitch..anyway,I'm not sure how plastic could or would work anyway, or how you could center the gear and keep it true....and with that kinda heat, it might melt into goo the first HSP you did.

It's a 2 piece metal material that works a little like a threaded clutchbell.

also....also, having said that, for all you speed freaks that don't have access to getting a 40t made, you can run an HPI 29t clutchbell/pinion on their threaded clutchbell, but you have to use a different clutch that ranges in price from 50 to 70 dollars....i thought about it before getting my 40t, but i can't justify 70 bucks for 5 teeth.

    take care.

depends....mostly 1/8 scale foams with the new era wheel adapters, but now that it's really cold, i mainly use road rage 2's on all 4's.

yes, i've run it a few times already. It's shockingly fast....crazy,ridiclious fast.

how fast? i dunno...i bought a bushnell radar gun off of ebay, but i haven't gotten it yet.

    estimate ...mid 80's i think....but i have a ported & polished engine too.

The first time i raced someone with this setup i ran my neighbor who has a new 3.3...then i went to my lhs and a couple of the mechanics who are good friends of mine & me went to a vacant walmart parking lot and ran....I raced a stock 3.3 and an O.S.TZ jato and pulled away from them immediately...i don't know the exact distance we ran, but i had probably 70-80 feet in front of them before i started to run outta room, and i was still gaining speed.

i love this set-up, but it's a little overgeared in my opinion...I'm running a 53/40, and i think i'd like 56 or 58/40 better....but to do that, i'm gonna need to mod my chassis some...i might try to make my own extended version if i can get some 3mm aluminum that i like.

have you had any problems with the trans yet???

or do you kinda baby it off the line??

My os .18tm is pretty brutal on just the wimpy axles... I can't imagine what that little motor is doing to the tranny..

no probs with the tranny at all. it would seem more likely that a bigger block engine would be harder on the tranny than a higher gear....

there's no need to baby it off of the line, the take off is smooth and really aggressive...no trouble with axles or drive shafts either...like i said, those are more torque issues than top speed issues.

    bump?

    lol.....

these are actually REALLY difficult to make. I have a 32t I made that will be almost done by the end of next week....i think a 40t is a little over-geared.

it's not a clutchbell i'm gonna run that much....it was more about, if I could do it.....I mostly run outside my house which has a superlong street, but even then i can't get up to top speed. I have to either go to a vacant walmart parking lot near where i live, or out to a really flat bike path that's not too far away,..

that's why I'm hard at work on the 32...it's more practical for where i like to play.

oh wow, that is well amazing. You should find out when the speed records go. I no that RC magazine hosts one every year in i beleive the califonia speed way. That should be enough i room to run your 40. I would love to message back to them.
You know that guys (fill in jato 75's name) that broke the world speed record for nitro. Yea i no him, hes a cool guy REALLY REALLLY smart.

thanks for the compliment, but dude.... I'm about 30-35 mph short of the nitro record,(isn't it like 113 or something?) and it's not possible with a jato ...nor would i even try...this was just for fun.

overall, yeah, it's by a brushless at 134.1mph, and he did another pass with another car at 160 but didn't count cause he hit the wall on the second pass.
i'm not sure a nitro 2 stroke could come anywhere close to that.

    But!!!.... I love my Jato!!

    what if someone put's 2 3.3 or better engines in a 4-tec or something! someone a long time ago(befor the TRX 2.5) put 2 pro-15's in a t-maxx and it did wheelies and 50+MPH with a 2-speed.

2 engines aren't gonna make it really any faster in the top end..not to mention how heavy it would make it....it might give it double the torque, but rpm's are rpm's...when they top out, they top out.

let's get back to the topic, please.

it takes power to go fast! if you get too big of a cluch bell you haft to get more power/less drag from someware elts to go as fast as you started.

how big of a cluch bell can you make jato75?

with a 24t, my takeoff was almost uncontrollable with the engine mod....

so i deceided to go for a # that had been done before by someone who went 76mph in a nitro rustler.

that's why i picked 40. How big could i go? If i have the money, there really isn't a limit, but the 40 was borderline overgeared....that's why i also made a 32t.

when the weather gets a little less wet here, i'll take it out for a radar test and document it.

well another thing is if you get too big then you can't move the motor far enough away from the spur to make enough room.
