    engine block/rear chassis flex?

hey, i just noticed this today, that my entire engine, and the rear of the truck moves whenever i apply throttle or brake. its slight, and all visable screws i can see are tightened as far as they'll go, and it still moves. i disconnected the throttle return spring and that cured the throttle problem, but it still does it when i push on the brakes. is this normal? ive only had 6 tanks through, on hard pavement, no wheelies or anything. should i be concerned?

yeah, it's chassis flex....sometimes it can burn spur gears and break top plates....get the 5522x chassis, and it will remedy the prob.

why? because the engine is done breaking in and it's getting all it's power out.

drive it....it usually only happens to flex badly when your holding it in the air...you should be ok for awhile...and maybe no concern at all...it's just the torque of the engine...., but if you start seeing yourself stripping spurs, then it might be time to replace it.

Your servo linkages may need to be adjusted then. If the throttle is fully opened and the servo had not reached it's end point, it will continue pushing on the carb/engine. this could eventually lead to a burnt out servo. Try re-adjusting the throttle linkages.

the engine moves as soon as you put any pressure on the linkage. like i even moved the throttle as slow as it can go, and it moved the second the horn hit the set screw. maybe im just worrying over nothing, but the whole back end of my car moves

Mine's done that since i got it, not caused me any probs though. if your worried about it upgrade the chassis but until you do don't be afraid to drive it. I bash mine mostly and the way the chassis flexes when the throttle is pulled won't strip the spur by itself as its not enough stress on the gears. even a small amount of pressure will make it flex but do not worry i haven't got the chassis upgrade either, bothered me when i first noticed it but don't even think about it now - and no, altering your throttle linkages won't make it go away, if you pull at the carb the chassis will move. looks like the engine tilts forward and the belly of the truck goes down. if this is how it looks to you when it does it yes the engine tilted forward but its still in the same place, all of the gears and shafts are round so this does absolutely nothing in the way of harm. don't worry, thrash and enjoy.

Sounds like your LHS sucks! Mine pretty much has whatever I go in and ask for.. Except the 2.5 head gasket I needed the other day.

A lot of the places i've been to don't have parts in stock but if you speak to them 9 times out 10 they'll be able to order you whatever you need and get it for you. just saves shelf space, nobody will buy in 20 upgrade chassis's if their only going to sell 1 every 3 months, but they'll get you one in if they know your going to buy it. just ask them to price it for you before they order it in so: A. you can shop about B: you don't get ripped. I've had some of my best bargins from a plane and helicopter specialist near where i live who doesn't stock any traxxas parts at all but his supplier has them so he gets them just for me if i save a bit of an order up. that way he makes his few quid and i get a good deal.

ive had the same flex to it has never caused any problems and i have near 5 gallons through mine and club race on a very rough track 2 or 3 times a week , my 1/8 scale buggy started flexing also after i added a good servo to the throttle and brake in some situations a little chassis flex isnt a bad thing but i also plan doing the chassis upgrade on the jato

the top plate is what the servos sit on along with the fuel tank and the receiver case.

    here is the top plate:
