    why no wheelies?

I can't get the wheels up, here's my setup:

    17Tspeed gem 19 pinion 87 spur
    masher 2K's
    7 cell 3300mAh
    mechanical speed controller

truck moves great but I thought the gearing, batteries and tires would be enough to get the wheels up.

what can I do short of brushless? probably an ESC and a 12T motor???

    Thanks.

Try a 14 tooth pinion. And you can't properly gear a 12 turn motor.

Are your tires glued to the rims, and is your slipper clutch too loose? But defenitly gear down some.

go to 14 tooth or even 13 tooth but i think you are way over geared i thout the rule of thumb was that you uce a pinion 2 teeth lower than the turns of your motor

got a pede with a duratrax 12t reversing esc rpm wide bumper

I would gear a 17T Speed Gems with a 15T pinion. Along with the 7 cell pack, this combo should wheelie with no problem. (as long as the slipper is tight enough and the tires have enough grip and are glued to the rims.
Speed costs money, how fast do you want to go?

I have been running a 13/87 with my Amber 17 this week and it will wheelie with a 3000mah battery. I don't think I would run this combo when the weather warms up but when it is 30 degrees outside nothing heats up that much.

You're definitely overgeared and it's probably your biggest limiting factor. As long as your tires are glued, the battery is in good condition and the slipper is snug you should get wheelies. Dropping to a 14-15turn is usually plenty for all the wheelies you could want. No need to try to squeak by with an overgeared 12turn.

thanks to all..It sounds like I'm geared too high...the tires are glued and the slipper's tight. Whose pinion should I get? I'm guessing 14 or 15T...It's running plenty hot as it is, so the lower pinion will make it tun even hotter, won't it?

Also, will an ESC make a noticeable difference with this motor setup? I know I'll have to get one at some point, when I want to go BL...

I'd like to do the upgrade in stages, just so the wallet doesn't feel it all at once. If I plan on ending up with a Novak brushless, but want to get the ESC first, which ESC should I get?

    thanks in advance.

the lower the pinion the easier it is on the motor, translating to lower motor temps. If it runs hot now, dropping the pinion a couple of teeth should drop the motor temp down to a safe temp (5 second rule).

Its been said before, but try a 14 tooth pinion. I run a 17x2 amber with a 14t pinion and I get good wheelies. My motor still heats up a little too much but I run in lots of grass and off big jumps with 3300mah matched packs full throttle more than 70% of the time so its to be expected.

btw, lower tooth pinions will keep the motor cooler.
