Anyone ever consider post count while reading/replying to a thread?

post count used to help me determine how to answer a question. now we don't have that luxury anymore. it would also help determine weather or not to believe a person that is giving out advice. i know post count doesn't always mean a person is or is not a capable hobbyist, but a person dishing out information is gonna be heard just a bit less objectively it they have 500 posts compared to a person with 10 posts.

maybe it's just me, but given the choice of taking advice from RAZER or TRAXXAS_NEWGUY_JIM......i'll choose RAZER. but if it was between TRAXXAS_NEWGUY_JIM or NOOB2005.....who knows? a quick look at the post count may help a little. especially if one guy has like 1500 posts, and the other only has 15.

join date does help a bit also. but i thought both together were best.

just my opinion. what do Y'ALL think?

p.s. all names except "razer" were made up by me. hopefully they aren't real! and i did a search for "post count" and only got stuff from early 05.

You can go to the profile page for the post count. Being here for 5 minutes or five years doesn't make alot of difference into the validity of their responses.
The only time I'm concerned about this is when I'm looking to BST with some one.

so it sounds like i have to boost my posts before you guys listen to me!!

i understand that post count doesn't always matter. (see my quote) but i just think it helps to know ahead of time. if a person asks a question, and they only have like 10 posts, the answers they get back may be overly "dumbed down" which is fine. the more info, the better. but if they have like 500 posts, the answers they get may be shorter and more to the point, thus saving time fore everyone.

i'm not trying to diss people with low post #'s. i am just getting opinions. *sigh* i just want them back.

There are some out there with lots of posts that I would not let tune my harmonica yet alone my $200.00 engine.
Unfortunately you need to read what they are saying and analize it. I just don't think post count is going to be that advantageous.
Heck I'm just happy we can do this. It has helped me out bunches and hopefully I have been able to help others too.

I've been roaming these threads for a while. Thread count helps some, but some people just post useless stuff to boost that number. I find if you recieve some advice you find questionable, research it. There are other resources out there besides just this site. The longer you've been in the hobby and the more familiar you become with your stuff and how it works the easier it becomes to determine which advice is fairly good and which isn't.

Best Advice: Take it all with a grain of salt!!!

You name it and I've probably seen it around here at one time or another.

I go more by punctuation and capitalization. Generaly The better it is I find the answers are more mature and straight up. Thats not saying when people have bad grammar I dont belive them, it just makes it look cleaner and more experienced. Alot of people around here dont have the best grammar (haha, I dont even know if Im spelling grammar right) but are very experienced and know there stuff. And yes, post count, age, and join date all make me wonder how knowledgeable they are.

Post count might not be all it's cracked up to be. I've been around here a little while myself, but that doesn't mean that somebody joining today can't answer a question better than I.

I tend to gravitate towards spelling and grammar as well. (Yes, you spelled it right - I think :P)

The default setting does not show post count so that people are not encouraged to post without good reason. You will get warned for that, by the way, so don't go getting any big ideas!
