    Unhappy Jato Shut Off!

I need some help fixing my Jato. When I first fire it up, it will run fine, but once I make a couple of high speed runs after its warm and bring it in it will just shut off. When I let off of the gas it will shut off within seconds. Then I can't seem to start it until its cool or something. I've done everything the book says to do, and now im back at the factory settings, and still it seems to do the same. Can anyone give me some advise?

When your engine is cold, turn your flywheel with your finger. If it turns easy you might need a new sleeve and piston. I had the same problems you are having and I spent days trying to tune it right but nothing helped. When I took it into the LHS they couldnt keep it running either because of bad compression. It doesnt matter if you have 1 gallon or 5 thru your engine. Bad compression can happen early if the engine wasnt broken in properly or your running to lean and WOT all the time. The symptoms you described sound like exactly like mine. If you work your needles and idle for hours and cant get it running right you might consider taking it into a lhs and see if the piston and sleeve need replaced.
If you refer to your Jato as "her" you may have JatoFever.

I don't know if it is that or not, because it runs great for a little bit, great power and all, but then when i let off the gas for longer than 2 secs it decides to cut off. Like if I hit a sharper curve and use the brakes it will shut off by the time I get on the gas. The first lap or two want do that. Only when it gets good and warm

if you have to "blip" the throttle to keep it running the LSN might be to rich

Yea! thats what my problem is! i have to "rev" the engine so it doesnt stall to clear it out of excess fuel!

My NEW JATO does the SAME THING. I spin the flywheel and the motor is TIGHT.
This was happening during breakin. If I let it cool for a few minutes she fired right back up. I have not touched the Jets. I left them set to factory settings. As soon as I can get to the Local hobby shop, I am getting another O.S LC3 Glow plug. I put one in my REVO and have never had another problem starting it. I have started the truck 10-15 times on the same battery even. Before I put the O.S plug in, I would have to charge the battery after 4 or 5 starts.

yea I know a guy who actually took off the blue glow plug wire and uses the ignitor, and he says it is a lot better. The wire and spring doesn't get the plug heated right

i found after changing glow plugs a few times the wire gets messed up it still works but not at good as a stand alone unit . but i switched to a pull start anyways so its kinda usless for me to have the ezstart stuff with me anyways .

k1e1v1i1n im having the exact same problem. i richend lsn after high speed passes and it doesnt stall as much but still does. i love my jato and i dont want it to keep stalling either. i plan to go to pull start too saves weight and dont have to carry the starter box thingy. just have to carry a glow ignitor. but if u guys could help me i would apreciate it very much. i adjusted my idle too and it sounds boggy and low and spits fuel out exhaust. i try to restart and takes forever have to crank it for really long time. im not sure what to do. pls help. thanks

Try leaning your LSN 1/8 turn at a time and do the pinch test. till it takes exactly 3 seconds to shut of. Remember though when you adjust your HSN you will need to re-do the pinch test. The LSN is always the last needle to set.

i just look into my air intake and check the space like that . if i see 1-2 mm i know i am good to go . as for the high speed i just play till its fast enough for me and i am not over heating .

i htink telling someone a exact setting is no good on here cause we all live in diffrent places and my settings wont work for u . i keep it between 220-270 make sure u open the lsn a little if u dont then it will always stall out on u when u hiot the breaks

i am soo new i hope no one takes my advice to seriously . i just say what works for me

i know mine would run but then it would idle real low sometimes i would put to much fuel in the tank and it would keep dyin on me but it might just be a glow plug tho because when my glow plug went bad and it would rev to high it would die on me also

the pinch test only gets you in the ball park. the 3 seconds is half the info you have to make sure that the rpm's increase and then it shuts off. if the rpm's dont increase and it shuts off in 3 seconds your still to rich one the LSN. try listening to your idles to see what to do. let it sit for 15 seconds if your idle keeps decreasing then stalls your to rich, if your idle steadily increases your to lean. this is IMO the most fullproof way

keep it closer to 3 seconds but what your listening for is how it sounds when it stalls more importantly then it just stalling at 3

if your idle screw is set properly to about the thickness of a credit card than its the LSN

i tried it. i lean it some more and its getting better. it still stalls when i do 1/4-1/2 throttle. it seems like the engine is flooding cuz when i get it restarted it starts and idles REALLY high i think its cuz its burning off the exxes fuel in the engine. anything else i can do? thanks

I replaced my Glowplug with an O.S LC3
now The JATO fires up and runs great. The Stock Traxxas Plugs SU$% big time. I had problems with my REVO but no more thanks to the LC3 Plug.

if you can get it to sit foor 15 sec with a smooth idle then your good if it starts to rev a little richen the LSN like 1/12 of a turn. do little little turns at a time

I have 2 JATO's I have the same prob with one of them. I called Traxxas and they said send it in and they would look at it. this engine has less than a 1/2 of fuel through it. My other JATO is working on two gallons and it still runs like it did after break in. I wonder if they are having carb. problems like the did with the Pro .15 carbs B/C they were JUNK!! if you hardly move the lsn it would take forever to tune if it ever did at all. Once they let me know what they find out I will let all of you know.
Jato with lots of hop ups, Hyper 7 PRO, 18T
