Im sure it could be done, the easiest way would be to drill the center of the wheels to the same size as the maxx axles, and then drill stampede/rustler hexes to the same size as the maxx axle. Problem is, you may have enough power to strip out the 2.2 wheel hex.
EDIT:, well i just tried, the wheels are too small and hit the knuckles befor the hex enters the wheel.

If you use 2.2" wheels with enough offset to clear the knuckles (perhaps these), you should be able to mount them as Mirage described.
Where there's a will, there's a way.
There is no chicken knife. Eat steak.
Another idea, you need to use all front wheels though.
Get the Parma, i believe its parma, and im also thinking they are discontinued, but anyway, get the nylon extended hexes. Them you need to precisely grind them down to the hex size of the stampede/rustler wheel hex.
It will take some creativity to overcome the problem i encountered, and i am not going to persue trying this anymore, but as razer said, where theres a will, theres a way.

Putting on 2.2 rims should work, but you need to find a very offset rim, and do the things the way Mirage described.
An alternative would be using 1/8th buggy tires and rims. They are a little taller, but are more narrow by a good bit. I have put buggy tires on my emaxx before, and there was no clearance issues.
To mount buggy tires, just use these adapters with your choice of buggy tires and rims. These adapters will also allow you to use tmaxx sized rims that have a 17mm hex.
I'm so smrt. D'oh!
Another thing to keep in mind, if u do get 2.2 tires mounted, they will stick way, way, way out, making the truck look very wide due to the extreme offset. Even 1/8 buggy wheels and tires look a little goofy unless u have the narrow maxx suspension and or a body that is much wider to compensate for the added width.
