Gone but not forgotten!! He wasn't the driver I wanted to win every week, but I still hate not seeing him out there on the track on Sundays. NASCAR will never be the same, there will never be another "Intimidator" . He was a "Good Ol' Boy" and there aren't many of those left. People like Dale, Bill Elliott, Sterling Marlin, Jimmy Spencer, Tony Stewart, etc. are what makes racing fun!!!
Did anyone else see the Nascar show on FOX that had Brandon Spurling and Jerry Nadu (spelling?) racing their T-Maxxes? They're really nice guys having fun with their trucks.
Dale Earnhardt Jr's pit crew and Sterling Marlin's crew also race Ts and Es in the pits during downtime. We know this from the shop in NC that sells them their gear.
Who would've thought NASCAR and monster trucks could come together like this!

I happen to live in Charlotte, and according to the guys at the LHS, a lot of the NASCAR drivers/crews have purchased Maxxes from them.
I think he said Bobby Labonte's team came in and everyone bought a Maxx.
As far as DE goes, he and Sterlin touched and when the car turned, DE was moved around in his seat. He then hit the wall at an approx 60 degree angle and the belt tore, allowing him to hit his head on the steering wheel, then the roll cage. (Extremely loosely paraphrased from nascar.com)
I didn't like the way he drove, and there was no one I loved to see lose more than DE. However, I never would wish this on anyone and yes, the sport is not the same now.
NASCAR begain to lose it's luster for me about 4 or 5 years ago. I've watched it for over 25 years (since I was about 5 years old) and it's certainly not the same now. I long for the late 80s/early 90s when Davey and Alan were still around and NASCAR hadn't begun to regulate the sport to death. I think the restrictor plate was probably the beginning of the end.![]()

Even the best drivers out there lose it sometimes... I was in Mexico when it happened and tears came to my eyes, even though I wasn't a big fan. I was rooting for the Dodges (1-2-3-4 starters), but it sure was a sad race.Originally posted by timberwolf211

Dale was always one of my favorites. Personally Stewart is my favorite driver. He might have a hot head sometimesbut he's a good driver.

to me Dale Earnhardt will never die. oh and NITROSRT the reason nascar put a resictor plate in the carb is to keep the drivers safe. if it wernt for this plate there would be more deaths at daytona & taladaga. the only reason it is in there is to keep the speed down.

I beg to differ with this. I agree that NASCAR intended to increase safety by doing this. However, what they succeeded in doing was creating a 35 car freightrain where no one car can do anything without help from at least one other. It's for this reason they won't change it back. Fans love to see them run 5 inches apart at 190mph. "Fans" also love to see the crashes. True race fans, however, do not.Originally posted by fanman

Superspeedway accidents are caused by too many cars being too close for too long, not by the speed.
I think it was DW that said, regarding this subject "Anytime you get above a buck fifty (150mph), things get pretty serious."
The laws of physics would have determined the top speeds of the cars on the superspeedways. When you're going so fast that your tires won't carry you through the turn, then it's time to tune down a little.
That's why it's called racing.

NOW WAIT. He didnt lose control because first he couldnt lose control if he wanted too! Buyt, did u see, that guy tapped him, he started to lose it, then he corrected it immediatley, then was going towards the wall and u can tell he would have corrected that also if that stupid M&M car of Ken Schrader wasnt in the war to redirect him into the wall. IF Schrader was never there, Dale wouldnt have been killed. Guaranteed. Watch the Daytona 500 again.

After Dale Earnhardt died, I have NEVER watched another race. NEVER. Probably never will again. After his death Simpson Racing products went down a great deal. Also if they took the restrictor plates out the cars would easily go 300MPH. Believe it or not.
Hey TraxxasRacer, its no one persons fault man. Yes Marlin did tap him and he did get sideways but when he corrected he OVERcorrected and that sent him up the track to later run into the M&M car. The M&M car didn't hit him man. Yes if he wasn't there Earnhardt would still be here but he was racing for 3 place and just driving like everyone else when Earnhardt went out of control up the track and into his car. Just an accident man and accitdents happen. And for everyone else I feel your pain but you shouldn't stop watching the sport cause Earnhardt would have hated you for not watching because of his death. You need to just find a different driver to like from now on.

It's racing. It's a dangerous sport. Drivers understand the risks.
And I rather doubt NASCAR cars would be doing 300mph. At the last NHRA event, the fastest Top Fuel Dragster did just 326mph and those are built for the sole purpose of going as fast as they can in a straight line.

I just heard on Tv sometime a while back that if the restrictor was out they would go 300, Who knows.
According to Motor Trend TV, the original Dodge Daytona/Plymouth Superbirds broke 250 in the trial runs with a 426. They had to add more restrictive plates in the Mopars that season.

Bill Elliott did 212 and some change the year before they put the restrictor plates on. If I'm not mistaken, that's the record in NASCAR.
Top speed would be governed by the stability of the cars (aerodynamics) and how well they would stick to the track in the turns.![]()

in regards to the report..in the press conference the "experts" said that schrader's car cought dale's car in the rear quarterpanel and that caused the angle needed to cause a fatal hit to the wall...that is the most irresponseable thing i have ever heard..now ken is going to have so called race fans making death threats like they did to sterling...it could have been explained without bringing ken's name into it....it was a racing accident..thats all there is to it and nothing more.....rip dale.. it'll never be the same without ole number 3 running out there but we still got jr.
