i will be driving in a cuple months and am having trouble picking between a cuple truck, remember i dont have much money and will be getting something older. i had a cuple questions, as far as dakota or s10, would they have much room for subwoofers if theres no back seat? i was also thinking dodage ramcharger or ford bronco, anything bad about these? are the v8 really bad on gas or just a little worse the v6? also, jeeps, ups and downs? thanx for your help

i forgot to say, remember im thinking about probably go offroad a lot in mud and stuff, and also needs to have an ability to pull stuff

How long till you can drive? If you get a Jeep, I know some don't have ABS, and you want ABS. Models like the Wrangler don't have ABS and you have to pump the brakes to stop fast to and not lock them into a skid (Newer models might have ABS, but you said older). Ford Broncos have a high center of gravity, making them easier to roll. I rode in my friends Bronco II and would not want it for my first car. Most v8's consume more gas than v6's, it all depends on how and where you drive, but you might want more power for mudding.

get my temps in a month or two. ive already drive broncos and trucks. i wouldnt be getting much of a lift if any. how are jeeps in general, like driving? wouldnt they tip easy too? what about dakota or s10, would they have room for subwoofers?

My first vehicle was an '82 S-15 longbed. I think factory it comes with 14" wheels. If you put some 15" rims and some p215 65/r15 tires on it, that will give it a nice beefy stance. If you can get a 2.8 v6 if it's between 82 and 85, they made a crank change in 85 to 'make it stronger' but after the change they started having lots of trouble with them. After 85 you want the 4.3L v6, it's a strong motor, it's basically a 350 - 2 cylinders, so there are a lot of hop-up parts for that (there aren't many for the 2.8L). I, personally, don't like the new body style of the s-10/sonoma so I would avoid those. Anything GM made except for Buick I would say would make a good 1st car.

It's pretty much what you want though. I wouldn't get a v8 now though, not til you have plenty of money so that you can feed it gas.

if you get a club cab(or crew cab for the new ones) you could put a sub in the back, but if it doesn't havethe clubcab part, theres no room unless you use the shotgun seat, which means only you can ride in it

what if i went to full size with v6?? or would that kick insurance up a bunch?

Newer Jeeps have a pretty wide wheel base, but the older ones are tippy. What are you going to pull? Maybe a v6 won't have the power. If you can get the money, I would really recommend a newer Toyota, because they are safe and powerful. Toyota is not a joke anymore with there trucks. I have a 2000 Tundra and it is probley the best truck for the price. It has a newly engineered 4.7L v8, it is a great truck. The new Tacomas are nice too, but you would need some money backing from your parents. That is my opinion.

In my mind, ABS is a joke. It can triple your stopping distance in slippery conditions, and normal brakes aren't as bad as most people think they are.

The Jeeps aren't any more tippy than any other SUV. I love the Cherokee, and the I6 model can pull about anything you'd need to, short of a 5000+ lb boat. The Wrangler can't pull much. The new Liberty is a real powerhouse with the 3.7L V6. Also, Jeeps were the first and still the best 4WDs.

The Dakota isn't tippy, either. It has anywhere from 175ish to 260hp, and can pull almost as much as a fullsize truck. The 4WD variants are great offroad, but still not as good as Jeeps.

all i would need to pull is my motorcycle and gocart, and maybe camper or boat, but its not all that much weight, all i know is i prolly couldnt get by with a 4cyclinder. i was looking at toyotas cause i know from a cuple of my friends and other ppl that they can last over 200k plus miles and are very tough. all i was wondering is how much room and what would be best for me, i really appreciate all your help A LOT. thankyou. right now im thinking more towards a jeep or small truck, any other or more info. out there?

and another thing, i dont want to start the whole conflict between ford chevy etc, but what would be a good starting out truck? also, would it be that hard to get manual, i know gear positions just would need a little help on clutching, like when you would shift do you take your foot totally off the gas or just a little?

Driving a manual can't really be explained; you need to experience it for yourself. I think a small, 6-cyl 2WD truck (hopefully a DC product!) would be best for you. 4WD and a V8 can wait 'til later.

Also, you say that Toyotas last a long time. Yes, they do, but it's just as long as anything else. Any of the Big Three's trucks are as high-quality as an overseas car. The myth of American cars being inferior to Japanese ones stems from the seventies, when that was true; but the myth is very outdated now.

I'm jealous of you driving, though. I can't drive until 11th grade!

just wondering, dc product? is that like chevy or gmc or somein? i was probably getting small s10 or dakota. im thinking maybe 4wd cause of snow but not sure. only reason i said toyotas last a long time is because ive known many ppl who ive seen theyre trucks, but never seen chevy that old but thats just me, didnt mean anything by it. does anyone else have any input on this? im thinking about going over mooses 4x4 and checking out stuff there. let me know of ideas, help, anything so this doesnt turn out to be a big mistake

I have to sy that the Dakota's kick @ss my dad has one and he put Coil-over spings on it and it will take almost any corner at 70 mph in cruise controll. I talked about it earlier. Here is the link:
