Question motor rebuild- got some questions

Hello, well my kyosho endoplasma is indeed ready for a rebuild. I was running it around, when i noticed a major powerloss (batteries were fully charged, only been runing for about 3 minutes). So i ran for a little longer, when the powerloss was so bad I couldn't even pull standing wheelies. So after the pack was pretty much dead, i turned off the truck, took out the motor, and smelled it. It kind of smelt burnt(is this normal?), so i took it apart. Well the brushes looked worned out, and the springs seemed loose. So i figured time for a rebuild. So anyways, i was taking it apart, and i hit the can lightly agints the table, and all of this black soot came out. so to get to my questions.

    1) Is the black soot and burnt kind of smell normal?
2)when i put the motor back together it wouldn't move, like it was locked up. Whats up with that?
3)this is my first rebuild of a motor, is there anything special i need to know?
4)What brush springs should I use when I purchase all of this stuff?

    Thank you for your help..

    1. The black soot is normal but you should spray out your motor more often with something like this .

    2. If your motor won't spin after you put it back together something is stuck in there or you put it back together wrong. It should have some resistence but it should still spin.

    3. I clean the comm with something like this before I put new brushes on and spray it with motor cleaner after cleaning the comm.

    4. These are the springs for your motor unfortunately they are discontinued for some reason. These should work though . Here's the brushes you need. . I am not sure why the stuff is all out of stock or dicontinued. Maybe someone else knows.

    GL with your motor.

thank you. I am dissapointed that the springs and the medium brushes are discontinued. Maybe I will shoot kyosho an e-mail and ask them whats up. But guess I can try those duratrax springs and i will have to wait until the soft brushes are in stock, and get a couple of sets. I was looking at the trinity buggy blast spray, but for cheaper, i will go with the duratrax powershot that you linked. I thought I put the motor back together correctly, i guess I will take it apart and check.

I am going to use the comm stick also.

    Thank you for your help.

PS: today i was running my pede with the rush in it(ughh) and i just so happened to strip my spur. I guess that goes on to the list. I hope it doesn't get any longer

read this watch slaming that can around the magnets are pretty easy to bust off(i have done this to 3 motors so far landing on the tail end hard)witch is what i think happend to u cousing the motor not to spin.or u might have set the timing way off.another thing u could try is to pull the brushes out a little (with the springs still there)and let them snap back into the com.u should clean your motor every 5 run or so with a quick shot of cleaner and dont forget to oil the bearings.dont over do it thow u just need a little drop of oil to get it done, other wise u will just be attracting dust cousing more harm.

thank you. I haven't slammed the motor on the tail in a while, except for in the snow. I will read that article that you linked, and will try the method with snapping the brushes. Also, what kind of lube should I use to lube the bearings, 3 in 1 oil? i haven't touched the timing at all neither.

3in1 works fine, just a little drop will be plenty.take the springs out and make sure the brushes slide in the hood freely.some times they get stuck and a little help is needed.weak springs and dirt are to blame.

    Good luck
i hit the can lightly agints the table
Sure kinda stinks about the brushes i wounder if u could use another hood???? how did u not mess with the timing if u took the motor apart? u have to remove the timing ring to get the com out. read this to find out about timing this guys site is loaded with how-to's and good tips.
