It adds up to time and money

    Here is a formula:
    7-cell battery pack
    +Novak SS5800
    +9 year old boy
    +small school playground
    +concrete curb
    --------------------
    =

    Could have been worse... like

    + 1 bulkhead
    + 1 A-Arm
    + 1 Shock cap
    +1 Shock shaft
    +1 Hinge pin

    = more money, and time!

The RPM bumper probably just paid for itself.

Actually it is the caster block. I have ordered aluminum replacements.

i was going to say that aluminum would be your best bet, but I guess you got that figured out. Sorry about the crash. Arceeguy is right, it could have been worse, but I bet you are glad it wasn't...lol

Not the first person to crash a pede

I would venture to say everyone in RC has crashed their vehicle at least once.

My son is learning to control the pede pretty well. This was his first outing with the 7-cell. He is a little gunshy with those packs now. I think we will stick with the 6-cells for him unless the space is wide open.

Yes I am very glad we took the advice of this forum and put the RPM bumper on.

I am replacing each part that breaks with a stronger piece when there is one available.

man its like the rpm bumper said uh uh i aint taking that curb.and no offense on the no skill remark,im just being a smart allec...

i was seriouse about the airbag thing though.soemcreative i did was buyone of those noodle things the kids swim with, cut four pieces from it,then cut those in half and put one on front, rear and sides of my nephews pede for a while.

i just cut holes in the foam and zip tied anyway i could.and no i have no pics, didnt have a cam at the time

That's a great idea. The high-density foam those pool noodles are made from should absorb considerable impact energy. As an aside, they should also save the pede from sinking should it be inadvertently driven into a pool/pond/canal/creek/river/ocean/etc.

    No offense was taken.

"Parts is parts" We all go through them. Some more than others. Heck, my 12 yr old just took out an "indestructible" delrin arm on his XXX4. Those school parking lot curbs are deadly!

I don't think I would have ever trusted him or my otehr son with a 5800 and 7 cells! Period. Well, maybe on a soccer field...

I agree. Curbs are the worst.

When I hit a curb, its usually a near miss, which means the back arm will get it.

Remember what happens to the back arm? It tears the whole arm mount off of the tranny.

Thats when you start stocking whole pre-built trannies in your toolbox, lol.

My RPM bumper shattered last week when I hit a curb. A 1:1 was coming down the street and it was a silent running car and I didn't see it till it was almost to late so I just went full throttle and smacked the curb. I'd had that RPM bumper for a week. DOH!

    Where ?

Where do I find alloy caster blocks?

    I have a similar problem " quiet car/panic/hit my 1:1"

Please link me to them or just a company name would be great.

I thought the FLM Nitro carriers had to be drilled out to work? If so, the 1/8" the recommend will result in slop, because the stock pins are 3mm in diameter.

I'm still thoroughly confused about their stuff and disappointed in their CS, but I'll save that for another time and another thread...

A #31 bit should be okay for that.
It didn't have enough power... so, I rewired it!

Seems I drive about as well as your son. Just built five 7-cell packs (bought an E-Maxx - never have enough batteries . Threw one in the brushless widepede to give 'er a test run on Saturday. Somehow managed to bend the cruddy HPI 90mm tie rods on one side to over 90 deg. Didn't hit anything serious. Bent it back and it lasted for a few minutes before it completely fell off. Put the 'pede away and play with the E-Maxx. (E-Maxx is now actually a ton of fun with 7 cells and I can actually use it now that I have eight battery packs.)

Today I went out after I mickey moused a Traxxas tie rod in - much stronger than the HPI.... grrrr... Had almost a full run with the 7-cell until I ran into a metal pole on the playground across the soccer field at full throtle - I had to be going at least 30+ MPH (21/87 gearing with a Novak 5800 and 7-cells - no GPS though ). A true testament to the RPM bumper! Anyhow I lost the other PoS HPI arm, shock tower and shock cap (I bought four aluminum shock caps and I'm replacing them as I go - funny I've broken 3 since I got the brushless ). I guess I'll make and aluminum shock tower and try and figure out some other tie rod end other than the HPIs.

Man the brushless just flies - doing wheelies going up the hill at full throtle is crazy! I never thought I'd have enough power but its hard to keep it all on the ground with 7 cells!
