Pickup Camper..short bed or long bed?

Ok, its about time for a new truck now. Our currnet truck is a 94 ford f150 with 8 ft bed with extra leafsprings and baged on the rear. The pickup camper we have goes right on the back of the bed and it weights about 3/4 tons. So were looking at f-250's and all we can find our our price range is the supercab short bed....Can we put the camper on the back of a short bed?....the camper is 8ft 3in long....It is made by Sun-light

How does the camper mount to your current truck's bed?

I reccomend contacting Sun-Light or finding the owner's manual (maybe online?) and checking there.

I have seen campers that extend off the back of the bed, but I am sure they are designed specifically to be able to do that...

I believe the short bed is 6 3/4' long . With the tailgate down that would most likely be another 1 1/2'. I would contact the camper dealer like bnkrazy said.

i should know this...considering my dad works at a camper warehouse and is a camper/RV mechanic....i'll have to ask him later when he's awake cause it's 11:15pm right now and he has work tomorrow and if i can remember i'll get back to you with an answer asap.

I would say to look for a longbed. Even though the camper may fit in the shortbed, a longbed has more stability from the longer wheelbase. With a longbed more wieght will be over the axle, where a shortbed the wieght will have alot of wieght behind the axle. Anyone who tows regularly knows how important it is to have your load balanced.

Hey, thanks for the response....my comp messed up so i couldent get on for a while. We checked all the dealers around here that sell them. They have no clue....but we havent thought of askin the sun-light company lol......btw the camper just fits on the back of the bed...the top rolls up...the front where there is another bed extends over the roof of the truck...There is a bar underneith that connectes to the chassis . there is a chain on each side that run to the camper...and on the back bumper there is 2 other chains to...that run to the camper.....i have pics of the truck on aim...so if u want a pic of the beater aim me at low15094
