I have a question about some upgrades I installed over the weekend for my wife’s truck. I replaced a Trinity Speed Gem Pro Amber (17T ~ geared 15/87 ~ timing set at 24°) with a Titanite (15T ~ geared 13/87 ~ timing set at 24°). My ESC is a fairly new Novak Rooster. While I was working on things, I went ahead and installed Deans Plugs for everything since the Amber motor heated up the connectors. I am using Ballistic 6-Cell 2400’s and DuraTrax 7-Cell 1900’s for batteries. Unfortunately, I am using the stock wheels and tires for now, but I did glue the tires.
The truck seems to have seriously lost power in forward. It seems like truck has much more power in reverse than forward. When going into reverse, I get a very slight glitch and then reverse over powers the wheels and the truck donuts on pavement. I have double and triple checked all of the soldering for the motor leads. The capacitors were preinstalled from Trinity and look solid as well. I have reset the Rooster ESC multiple times and checked the switch on the radio. The slipper is adjusted per the Misbehavin RC site.
After one run with the 7-Cell’s the pinion was so hot it burned an imprint in my finger. I am going to change the gearing after a stop by the LHS this afternoon. Any other suggestions besides changing the gearing?
Thanks for any replies.
