    Question Ebay experiences

I am thinking of building a computer but I wanted to buy the parts on ebay to save money. What are the chances of me getting ripped off if I buy on ebay? I will check feedback and make sure it is all positive and use paypal but how mnay of you guys have been ripped off?

I have never had a problem with ebay. Regardless I only had about 20 transactions but still never had a prob, I have had problems with message boards though.

I've bought and sold alot of things on there so far and everything have been good(knock on wood). the only thing that really happened to me was some slow shipping. Just do the reseach on an item before you get all bid crazy. Things to think about:

    1. sellers feedback
    2. If you have any questions get them answered before bidding.
    a. ask about part numbers
    b. the condition of the item
    c. if new is it in original box, or if it has all it's paperwork
    3. Don't over bid (meaning if its going to cost the same as going to the store and buying it), it's to much
    4. new vs's used
    5. paypal, it has buyer protection up to a certain amount just in case.

Thats just a few things that I can think of right now

i almost got ripped off by a guy with perfect feedback, and tons of it...i dont really know what happened, b/c he would NEVER return my emails...
so finally i contacted ebay, emailed him letting him know i was gonna pursue further action...3 days later, surprise surprise got what i paid for and an email asking if it arrived...

that’s the only negative experience vie had...hasn’t completely turned me off of eBay, but im alot more skeptical now

I don't use eBay for computer parts...there are plenty of online stores with dirt cheap prices and extremely low or free shipping.

99% of the time newegg.com has the best price and free air -not ground- shipping...why risk eBay when there are better options?

For computer parts, I'd go to an online store. They will carry a warranty. They will have NEW parts, not used ones someone took out of a station they were upgrading or parting out. At least with NEW parts, you can go back to the manufacturer if there is trouble that the reseller won't or can't take care of. If you buy used, it is... well... used. Sold as-is, no warranty.

Also, look at shipping charges! Thats how they get you!!!

"Oh wow... emaxx, 59.99 buy it now!" *click!*

    "wait a second.... $150 shipping?!?!"

Uh huh. I've even seen people who said they where giving away software for free, with free shipping, but you had to pay for insurance, which was like $20 bucks

SO now, first thing i look at is price, then shipping, then description. then i decide what i want to do.
"If I can control it, It's not fast enough!" My E-Maxx is now fast enough... 9918+9L

Excessive shipping charges are against ebay rules (and other annoyances like search manipulation (putting what the item is NOT in the title, etc). Ebay won't do anything about it unless it gets reported though..
Go through the help and contact us and the stupid email form, you'll get there eventually, and you can help the problem!

i would be very reluctant to buy anything of real value from ebay ever again.. and paypal does NOT guarantee your money is safe..

i got my mate a 4tec pro from ebay, no problems.
same guy is selling a regular RTR 4tec, which another friend wanted, so i made the purchase on his behalf..

3 wks pass and no car.. then i stop getting reply's from him.
paypal refused to help because i reported him at 31 days (30 day limit) so they refused to even offer any help, because i was one day out.. he was NARU'd from ebay aswell.

i gave him plenty of time to reply, and another 3wks i hadnt heard anything so i reported him to ebay, paypal, squaretrade, and even the internet fraud commision (apparently part of the fbi?)
then he emails me saying hes been away for 3wks and was extremely annoyed i reported him..

anyway he goes to the post office and replys, that he forgot to sign the customs form...

another week has since passed, and i still waiting for any confirmation..

i have his address in North Las Vegas nevada, his mob phone (which goes to voicemail) and his MUMS phone number and i still cant get in touch with him and he refuses to reply to the emails..
this is all from a dude who claims to have 5 kids, and be into several RC clubs.

never again will i make an expensive purchase from ebay, and never again will i buy one for a friend and be stuck in the middle..

PAYPAL's buyer protection isnt worth anything.. if you ever read ALL of paypals TOS, you would be shocked.
Im no expert. i just play one on the TRX forums

I almost alway use a credit card on eBay. Myself and 4 others got stiffed in a weekend by the same guy. He had 200+ positives with no negatives and we each purchased a truck from in in value from $125 to $400. I was the $125 truck and went through my bank to get the money back on my credit card (Paypal wasn't happ that I didn't go through themto resolve the issue) unfortunately the other 4 paid with money orders or checks and lost their money. Just one experience I had.

I recommend an online store. You can get the same price and it's easier to deal with problems.

I used Ebay for most of my R/C related purchases, but if you're trying to get parts to build a comp, like bnkcrazy typred, you best bet would be to go to www.newegg.com. their prices are dirt cheap, and they are very prompt when handling your order.

TigerDirect is good too, IMO. I got a processor and some other stuff. Ordered Thursday night at around 6:30 or 7:00. It was waiting for me when I got home Friday afternoon at 2:30.
It didn't have enough power... so, I rewired it!

Yeah, but Tiger's warranties are a fraud. They refused to take a defective notebook back. Granted, it was one of their Tiger special brands I bought for a friend...they still should honor the warranty.

I'll never buy from them again.

I do a lot of buying and selling on eBay and have never had any problems...untill now. I ordered a new TRX 2.5 engine from a guy who has an eBay store, and I have not got any kind of email or anything from this guy as to when he shiped it. I did get a tracking number but it just shows that the Post office is expecting it for shipment. The store name is "tnstanthemanrc" I would avoid this seller at all costs.

I stand corrected. I just got off the phone with this guy and while his comunication via e-mail may not be that great, he made it a point to correct the situation. He said that if the engine is not here tomorrow he will send another one, and since it has taken so long he is going to send an extra sompin' to make things right.
