    Question Dead XL-1 ESC

My son's ESC burned up this weekend. I guess his ESC could not handle the Speed Gem Pro Amber 17T Double Motor and the 7 cell GP3300 with 13x87 gearing.

We opened up the ESC and found a cracked/burned power transistor.

Does anyone know where to get a replacement transistor?

    Thank you

You could find a used xl-1 fairly cheap. It won't handle 7 cells and 17 turns. I run mine with a 17 turn motor, but I stick with 6 cell batts. Traxxas will repair your unit for $25.....

The flat rate repair for the XL-1 is $15 + $5 shipping.

The output transistors are all the same type, and can be purchased through online retailers like DigiKey corp. You'll want to check all of the other ones with a meter because they can short out without any physical clues. (burning, splitting)
Speed costs money, how fast do you want to go?

I just need to know what the "type" is
I'm having trouble finding the part by the number printed on the transistor.

    Thanks

Take a look at a "unburned" one. You'll see a number like B646, just add a "2S" prefix to that number and you'll have the OEM part number. (2SB646 or something similar or maybe it was a D not a B.........)

Alot of cheaper ESC use IRFZ40 or IRFZ44 FET's
Rustler with Stampede Body Mounts, Masher 2000's, Futaba 3PDF Radio, Tekin Rebel ESC, Magnetic Mayhem 23/87, SG2 Amber 14/87, misc 8-cell packs, RPM all around, Lunsford Turnbuckles.

The XL-1 does not use FET's - it uses bipolar power transistors.

I just checked, and the part number is 2SB826. Also check the driver transistors (the smaller D1384 and D2500) to see if they got blown.

Might also be easier to pay for the repair, or put the repair money towards an ESC that can handle really powerful motors.......

    Thank you for the information.

I agree that the best option would be better to purchase a new and better ESC, but I already have spent enough on the trucks for now The costs of the "extras" far out paces the initial cost of the truck!

It will be a good project to work on with my son; it will give him some hands on experience with a soldering iron and an oscilloscope.
