    Cover Titans?

    Hi,

I have my e-maxx for two days now. I'm wondering if it would be possible to cover the titans to protect them from dust and dirt getting in. Something like metal net?

    Thanks for the help!

You'd need a really fine mesh, it would be easier if you just cleaned them with motor cleaner.

Any sprays you would recommend (add link if possible where I can get it)?

    Thanks!

don't worry about it. anything that you would use to cover them will make 'em hot. just clean and maintain them, do a search on "titans and cleaning" or "motors and cleaning". dust doesn't kill motors like heat.

Yes, it's cheap and gets the job done.

You can also use automotive brake cleaner, which accomplishes the same basic principle of cleaning without leaving residue.

Thanks for the advice. How do I use that? Spray into the motor through the wholes where I can see white things?

Yes, and watch what drips out. When it runs out clear (from the motor), stop spraying. It will take several hours to overnight to dry. Since it's mostly alcohol, I wouldn't recommend running right after you spray out your motor. Don't forget to re-oil the bushings after you're done.

BTW, I think the 'white things' are the fans.

Hey, could you write more detailed procedure? Like you said spray till it's clear, do I need to have them running? Also, what kind oil is good? Thanks!

Unplug everything, Take the motors out, spray the motor unlit it runs clear, let it dry for a while, after its dry, oil the bushings. BTW, any petroleum based oil is good, as long as its not thick.

Ok, that might have been a tad confusing. Let me try again.

Take the motors out of the truck. Spray motor spray liberally into the motor through the cooling holes (through which you see the 'white things'), and watch what drips out. When the stuff that is dripping out of the motor becomes clear, like what is being sprayed out of the can, then the spray is no longer carrying any dirt, and you can stop spraying.

Motor spray is mostly alcohol, so it is flammable. Do not run the motor while spraying, or for several hours after spraying, unless you're intent on celebrating the 4th of July a tad early.

I use fishing reel oil (Zebco), but 3-in-1 oil like you find at Wally World or automotive stores is probably the best oil for the price.

    Good luck!

I put oil same place as motor spray or just at the ends?

The bushings - the small places where the shaft sticks out.

Oil is flammable, so putting it on the brushes comm (basically the area where you're spraying with motor spray) will, once again, cause big sparks or flames.

i agree with the above cautions about not runinng the motors while spraying them but you don't have to wait hours to run them. alcohol evaporates rather quickly. my experience with the titans and lots of other brushed motors is that by the time you have them reassembled and back in place with the pinion and setting the gear mesh they are ready to go. i use the rpm spray in the white can.

    Lightbulb five-star post

good question, and good(er) answers. This sort of help is what the forum is all about.

    Kudos to both of you.
