    Possible Cheap DC Motor

    Hello everyone!

I came across a site that has a cheap ($6) DC motor that may be similar to the Titan. Here's the writeup: 12v DC Motor

    Igarashi Motor. 1.46" diameter x 2.5" long reversible DC motor. 0.125" diameter x 0.4" long shaft. 16 Vdc @ 300 mA (no-load rating). Solder-lug terminals.

    Here's the website: http://www.siliconsolar.com/small_DC_motor.htm

Whadya think??? I don't have time to research this puppy so I'll leave it up to you.

I doubt that it will work in an E-Maxx.

If it is only drawing .3 amps at 16 volts, it will have very little power. (It indicates high turns on the armature) You want to see over 1.2 amps @ 6V with no load (similar to the Titans) for it to be considered a suitable replacement.

Thanks for the link (we really do appreciate it), and happy motor hunting!

The mabuchi is 3-6v.... I wonder how many seconds it would last at 12-16v

    Hey, at least I'm trying.

Any motor we can find that's as good as the titans for less $ is a good motor. If it's even better than the titans, then that's a great motor!!!

If this motor is a Mabuchi RS550-PF then IT WILL run at 12 volts. Check this PDF link out and you can see it was run at 12 volts.

OK, we all know where we can find drill motors - in cordless drills (and saws). But where else can we find them? Well, they're in my kid's PowerWheels Jeep by FisherPrice (the electric jeep that kids ride in). In fact, this thing uses two titans - yes, titans. I'm trying to see if I can order replacement motors for this jeep for less than the cost of titans - I'll let you know.

So, where else can we find good e-maxx motors??? Look around everything in your house, at the store, etc and try to discover a source of titans or better yet, big block motors (755's). If you can find something for short dollars then canablilize the motore, you win!!!

Happy hunting.......now I'm off to take apart the blender....

I'm pretty satisfied with Titans, at least until I can afford to go brushless.

I know Titans are made for Traxxas by mabuchi.
    (model rs-550pc-8021)

But is there someone that could explain the difference between this mabuchi and the one labeled as a titan?

If you had a drill press or a vise and a steady hand and some good bits, you might be able to drill out a pinion....."might"... But I've never tried it. I wonder if one of those motors would equal the performance of two Titans? And if it would fry the EVX...

I have a big vise and a very steady hand :-) If I knew that the motor wouldn't fry the EVX--and give enough power, I would buy it in a heartbeat.....any ideas?

if i bought a 5mm pinon would it even be possible to drill it out to a 6.37 mm pinon without weakening the pinon. if so i just might do it. dont know if it would fry the evx but i would be willing to try it out.
and what if i put it on this batt. setup what do you think the motor would do.http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...tem=5910227943

    Ryan,

When working with aluminum, be careful. If you've not worked with it before it is unlike any other type of metal you're used to.

First, be very careful of aluminum dust - it is very flammable. In case you don't know it, aluminum dust and ground up rubber is used a solid rocket fuel.

Second, don't use a grinder (bench grinder, dremel, or otherwise). You'll be tempted to grind down the rough edges with a grinder. Don't. The aluminum will melt, get into the grinding material, and cause it to shatter. This will result in your injury.

Treat the aluminum more like wood than metal. I used a wood blade on my jig saw to cut it. Use a fine wood file to smooth down the edges. Aluminum will choke a metal file.

All in all, once you get used to it, aluminum is no harder to work with than steel. In many ways it is probably easier. However, what makes it easier (softer and lower melting point) also makes it more difficult (traditional metal working techniques don't work).

Good luck and I look forward to the data on the 755's.

    Yoshi

    Question turn down the shaft

would it work to turn down the shaft to 5mm for a portion of its length? Like a stepped-down section that would also act as a shoulder for the pinion? Or, would that create a stress area?
Puleeezzzzzz let us know where those motors are for sale at.

    970 Pinion Gear

You can get a pinion gear from https://sdp-si.com/eStore/ that has a 6.35 MM Shaft. I just order me two 16T 32 Pitch stainless steel. I paid about $20. her are some parts links that all have a 6.35 mm bore and set screw, they differ in Tooth material used.

wow thanks for the links.if i am unsure about the amount of power and how hot everything is going to get what would be a good gear ratio to start with to make sure i dont get the batts evx and also the motors to hot since i only have 2 of them right now.
