I went to the lake this weekend with my newly broken in Vee. I ordered the Prather Spin fins for it prior to leaving and they came in the mail the day before I left....perfect! I installed them at the lake, with little to no trouble. Threw it on the water and had some fun for a while (maybe an hour), until I noticed the stern riding low. I pulled it out of the water, and the transom had cracked like crazy! Spider cracks coming away from the holes I drilled for the Fins. Not really thinking about the double hull idea, I had tightned the nuts too hard and cracked the transom to heck, both hulls. I have since epoxied the cracks, and it seems to be holding, but what is a permanent fix? I don't want to order a whole new hull, just for a few cracks! I've only had the thing for a week!
I am thinking of making a template of the transom out of paper, and cutting some 6-60 alluminum to match, drill matching holes and epoxy it on (with maybe a layer of fiberglass between the aluminum and the ABS for better adhesion.) What do you think?
