clicking noise going from FWD to REV

I am hearing some bad noise from my pretty much stock pede. I am hearing a clicking noise when going from FWD - REV or under braking. Spur Gear and Pinon look good. Orginal Idler looks a tad bit worn and doesn't seem to fit very snug against the other gears, so I am in the process of upgrading to the machined idler.

Is my Stock Stinger dead and do I need to replace it now? I was hoping not because I also have to upgrade my esc.

TowerHobbies says that Traxxas Top Gear Machined 22T Srt is required when upgrading to the Traxxas Aluminum 30T Idler Gear, is this true?

When I replaced my idler gear, all I did was put the aluminum idler gear in, and put some silicone grease on it. All the other gears are the same. Also, dont forget to take the bearings out of the old gear and put them in the new one.
