    Stock shock upgrade?

I have a stock E Maxx and I am considering upgrading to the big bore shocks but I'd like to save some money since I am just a backyard basher.

I have been reading past posts and most people like the RC Raven dual rate springs. Can I replace my stock springs with the RC Raven springs and go to a 40 or 50wt shock oil and get good results from the stock shocks? Or can I just get the springs and see an improvement.

I have started doing some jumping lately and I would like a better shock spring package.

Yes you can just replace your spings with RC Raven springs to stiffen up the ride, but if your planning on some heavy jumping chances are you will want to get aluminum shocks so your not blowing the stock shock caps off.

Just had to ask me that question didn't ya lol! The traxxas big bores are an excellent backyard basher shock, but in my opinion you need to put RC Raven springs on them to make them the best that they can be so your looking at close to $100 there. I had the big bores then sold them for the setup below.

On my truck I have the UE SuperShocks for $70 for a set of four, they are 1/8 scale shocks and they come with stiffer springs. The four of them easily work on my race emaxx that weighs in around 11 1/2 lbs with batteries, so unless you have a really heavy maxx four should work for you also. The only bad thing about the UE shocks is I've never ran them with the stock shocktowers, I run the UE knuckleheads. If you don't mine having your truck set up high I'm sure they would work, but for me I had to have some adjustment to slam it low for racing so I had to upgrade the towers to. Hope that helps.

I don't know much about the proline shocks, seem awfully expensive to me. Personally I would go with a setup that's been proven on the track.

If those shocks are in your price range, I would go with the UE and get a set of there shocktowers also.

I'd probably end up going with 8 shocks to take the full abuse of serious bashing so I'd be looking 2 sets of the UE shocks and the RC Raven spring.

I'm currently running the RPM shock-tower/body mounts because I kept breaking the "stock" ones and wanted something that would not bend...

will the UE shock towers hold up to bashing ?

You don't need the RC Raven springs with the UE shocks, the UE shock kits have upgraded springs that come with them that are top of the line already, you get 8 springs per 4 shocks so you can mix and match for you desired tuning.

The UE shocktowers are very durable, and will take any abuse you can throw at them.

i like traxxas aluminum big bore shocks. i had some powerl***
shocks and bent two shock shafts. replacement shafts are mail order only. with the traxxas shocks my hobby store carries shock
shafts and seal kits and replacement ball ends at the bottom of the shock.

For comparison, for months I've been jumping like a madman with stock shocks, stock oil, RC Raven springs, shock sox and hose clamps on the caps. No troubles at all.

Do you like your RC Raven springs Maxx Electric? What kind of difference will I see on my stock truck with just the springs?

Yes, I like the RC Raven dual-rate springs. They are stiffer than stock, so my heavier-than-stock truck handles better and does not bottom-out as easily.

I went with Traxxas Big Bore's and RC Raven Dual Rates on the outside corners (4) with the standard's on the inside corners. This setup seems to work pretty good for me (less bottoming out, truck doesn't act bouncy on small bumps). I tried the RC Ravens on all 8 shocks, way to stiff for my application...tap the throttle and the thing would flip on it's lid.....
If you think your going to loose you already have !
