Unhappy Replacemet Pro.15 engine won't start

    Hi,

I've been a fan of the Nitro Rustler since Xmas 2002 when my fiancée (now wife) bought me one for Christmas. I've had immense fun with it, but about 3 months ago it started running roughly / wouldn't start and fuel / oil started spraying out of the engine.

I decided that it was time for a new engine so I returned the old one and sent of my £67 for a shiny new one. The new engine (Pro .15) was duly fitted but unfortunately, I have not been able to start it since (that was 3 months ago). I've tried factory settings and just about everything else in-between.

The glow plug is good, the carb has fuel (unburnt fuel comes out of the exhaust when the engine is turned over), the filter is not blocked - I've even tried starting it with the throttle in various positions. I've also tightened up the head bolts and also the glow plug. No leaks are evident but I have a suspicion that the compression is poor.

Has anyone else had similar problems with a new engine??

Any help is appreciated as I’m at my wits end.

    Thanks in advance

    Andy.

that tells me that your low speed needle is set too rich...
i bet after trying to start it for a while, if you tip your truck on its side so the exhaust is the lowest point, you get fuel run outta the pipe???
Im no expert. i just play one on the TRX forums

are you sure the glow plug is getting hot. how did you test it? I once had an intermittent problem that was driven me crazy. sometimes it would get hot, then nothing at all. replaced blue glow plug wire and problem was solved.

    NitroRCracer,

Yes I get the fuel running out if I tip it up- but only after a lot of turning the engine over. I've tried it with a lean setting but I'll give it another go - thanks for the reply.

    Cheers

    gt dirt racer,

YOU ARE WONDFERFULL !!!!!! I swapped my glow plug for a new one and it fired up straight away!! I'm soooo pleased - it was driving me mad.

I knew the old plug (the one which came with the new engine) was working since:

    a) I always got the red light on the EZ start

    b) I took it out and held it against the chassis whilst I turned the engine over and watched it glow.

Anyway, your advice was spot on and I'm chuffed. Time to break the engine in!

    Thanks again for the help,

    Cheers!

glad you got your rustler running. I was thinking it was the glow plug wire. if it happens again, check it like you did,but touch the glow plug on the cooling head. make sure its bright yellow almost white not dark orange. if its inconsistant, change the glow plug wire. thats the problem I had after thinking the glow plug was bad. oh well now I have a spare.

Yes I'm chuffed. I really thought I would never get it going. The plug glowed Orange but I suppose that’s not necessarily and indication of a good plug.

Anyway after fitting the new plug it starts every time.

    Thanks again!
