Lightbulb Mtroniks Sonik4 RV Max (F/R) 8 turn ESC - Anyone have one yet?

I'm about to hit the "finalize order" button for the Mtroniks Sonik4 RV Max (F/R) 8 turn ESC ($79.99) and I was wondering if anyone has any feedback on this newer "Sonik4" model with the "New Gen-Xi-Fet Technology".

Seems like a nice ESC. Although no info I can find tells what the "new advanced features" are, I am assuming it's at least a little better than the "Sonik3" model and maybe runs a little cooler.

I wish I could give you a review. I have the older RV15 and I love em. No problems at all.

    New Gen-Xi-Fet Technology
I love things like that, especially when you don't know what they are and can't find out.

personally I prefer Space Age Technology

    or Universal Fitment

    Those descriptions always add value.

I'm not knocking the ESC, just think that sometimes the hype is funny.

Does any one know how long - in approx. number of runs - the stock stinger will last? I too am looking to upgrade the esc and motor, but I hate to throw a working part away. I suppose I could always use the Stinger for a lathe motor. I have higher performance motors on my ST and would really like to move my Pede in that direction.
    When in doubt, gas it.

My stingers will last almost indefinitely. I ran about 20 battery packs through each one and from there bought a Monster Horsepower Pro, Reedy MVP pro, amber, and titanite. With those motors at my disposal the stinger should last and last and...

Sorry I'm not being very informative.

I will say that I rec'd a Rustler from ebay which was the "old style" and it still had the stinger in it. The motor made a bit more "noise" but other than that it just keeps on going.

Angry Anyway....Back to the posted question

Life of the Stinger - I don't know, mine didn't wear out before I replaced it. By the way I think this is probably a discussion for another post.

eri3f0g - Thanks good to know I am buying something that has some dependability.

Let's not get side tracked on the question, I'd like to get it ordered this weekend unless somebody has anything relevant to add.

Does anyone have any real info or opions on this ESC?

    Thanks

i think razer runs an mtroniks. but im sure if he runs one it must be good. the mtroniks are also on misbehavins recommended list.
as far as i know, its the only waterproof out of the box esc out there, which is my main reason for buying it.
i have heard good things about the other mtroniks esc's.
i personally never plan to run below 8 turns, so i think that will be plenty of juice for me. i think they will also accept up to 8 cells, so thats a good point too.

The only downside to me was something that basically took some getting used to.

I upgraded from the xl-1 to the RV15 and I was used to the immediate reverse of the xl-1. Basically it had no brakes it just tried to go in reverse. Once I installed the mtroniks I realized I had to adjust my reverse style. With the 2second delay from brake to reverse you need to "slam" the brakes on but remember to ease off the brakes before the reverse kicks in. This is only necessary if you don't want to "pin it" in reverse everytime. I've never (as of yet) needed more than the 2 seconds of good braking to slow or stop the truck. I just needed to get out of the reverse throttle so I could back up a bit more controlled.

Not really a downside, it was just a tiny bit awkward at first. Now it's second nature and I don't even realize it.

Actually, I don't. I've heard enough great recommendations for them from reliable sources that I am comfortable recommending them anyway. I'm not currently in need of another ESC, but the Sport Max/RV Max is next on the list. I'll eventually want to run my trucks in the snow/wet without worrying about the ESC.

    Thumbs up Thanks

After I get everything installed and have done some testing, I will write a review and throw it on the forum for everyone to read.
