    bah, engine idling problems.

My engine doesnt seem to want to idle anymore, long enough for me to adjust the mixture. Also my idle speed is high, but if i lower it, it stops running..

Disconnect the silicone exhaust coupler, take the air filter off, disconnect the fuel line and pressure line, then use the big allen wrench that came with the truck to remove the 4 cap head screws holding the engine mounts to the chassis...lift the engine out and rotate it to slide the linkage out of the carb. find the nut thats holding the carb on and take it off with the 4 way wrench. Take the idle speed screw all the way out, then slide the slider out the side of the carb (grab it by the throttle linkage lever and pull it straight out). Take the low speed needle out the side of the slider, and take the high speed needle out. Your carb should now be completely dissassembled other then the fuel line fitting and the thing the high speed needle was screwed into. Clean everything you took out of the carb, and the inside of the carb body with denatured alchohol or whatever nitro cleaner you use. Wash the outside of the engine with the cleaner as well, it'll let it cool down a little better...then wd-40 everything that was in the carb, and the inside of the carb body, and re-assemble it...the slider HAS to go in before you screw the idle speed screw in, and the idle speed screw will hold the slider in..put it back on the engine and carefully put the engine back on the truck, and re-set the gear mesh and link the linkage....re-set the carb to factory settings. (high speed 2 1/2 turns out, low speed flush with throttle arm, and set the idle speed so the slider is open about 1-1/2mm at idle...and fire it up and tune it for power...

Phroziac, you missed two things with cleaning your carb out. Dirt in the carb that causes the most problems is usually the dirt in the fuel jets. When you clean the carb out, you also want to clean out the high speed needle assembly and low speed needle jet in the carb. Clean the high speed jet by taking the needle out all the way and spraying cleaner through it. Clean the low speed jet, called the spray bar, by taking the black plastic piece on the end of the carb off, push the brass jet out, and spray it out like the high speed jet. Be sure not to lose the tiny two screws that hold the black plastic piece on. Also, I would not put oil in the carb when rebuilding it; OS says this can deteriorate the o-rings after awhile. However, if you have idling problems, the first thing to try is a new glow plug.
