New 4-tec needing re-build

I am trading in my emaxx for a nitro 4-tec. It has a TRX 2.5 engine in it and only 7tanks run through it says the owner. It needs a re-build. I am not new to nitro since I have purchase a 2.5 nitro rustler about a month and a half ago and have got the hang of it. But I dont know exactly what a re-build is, or what to do. I overhear someone at my LHS saying that they do a rebuid every to weeks for ultimate performance. Can you help me out on this. Is this something that I can have patience and time for and do, or should I blow my money to have the LHS do it for me. If i should, what exactly do I do, is it like taking apart the whole engine and cleaning all the parts? Anyways, you get the point. Help would be big time appreciated.

Depending on how much it costs for labor you may want to do it yourself, if you can stomach the inside of the engine. Something tells me it might be ugly . The piston and sleeve are $70 and piston, rod and sleeve are $90. Just for grins,... what was the high speed needle set at?
