I got a good deal on an O.S..15CV-X!

I went to my lhs today and they had an O.S. .15CV-X with the 10-E carb for $115! Naturally I bought it. Now comes the question. I have a .15CV-RX in my Rusty now, but I hate to say, it's almost too much. I know this subject has been beaten to death, but I'm thinking 2-speed on the CV-X in the Rusty. Since it already has the long crank(I haven't cut it yet) is it possible to use a 2-speed cb from another car? If that can be done, all I have to do is make the 2 spur gears work. If I can find one with say 18/72 first gear and 22/66 second gear, this should fly! BTW, the CV-RX will go in my pro-.15 Maxx. The Maxx needs the torque because it's heavier. Any ideas or input would be appreciated.

A two speed isnt just two gears there are some other parts one way bearings clutches or just two of them. Just look at the blow up pics of the 4tec two speed to get an idea of whats involved with a two speed.

I think you sohuld just leave it alone. I really think it would be too much trubble to try and ghetto-rig a 2 Speed on your Rustler. It could be possible, but it would be really unstable and would break easily since it wouldnt mount correctly. And unless your gonna be running strictly on-road, it prolly wont do you anygood. In Offroad, you would almost NEVER even go into 2nd. And even for onroad, at my LHS, they have parking lot races, and the track is usually pretty big, and I dont think of any situation where I would need a 2 Speed. My O.S. CV-R .12-powered Rustler with stock gearing would smoke all the competition in the straits, and it still ahd too much power to come out of the corners any stronger than half throttle, without spinning out and costing at least 5 seconds.

I guess I'll leave that alone. I figure the CV-X should have similar power that the pro-.15 did anyway. Only less tuning hassles. My purple cooling head and purple front shocks came in too! My lhs rules! I've noticed with my CV-RX, the weather hardly affects tuning. It's nice not to have to spend the first tank of the day trying to get the hsn just right. Thanks for the input, that's why I come here.

Did you get the CV-X or CV-RX? The CV-X .15 will have about thrice the torque of the pro .15. But the CV-RX will have about 5 times the torque or maybe 6 times of the pro .15. And the top speeds of the CVs and CV-Rs is about 8k RPMs more than the pro .15.

Right now I have a CV-RX in my Rusty, but that's going in the Maxx( Nothing against the Rusty, but the Maxx needs more power for all that weight). The flywheel should work, but you may have to cut the crank first. Once the flywheel is on, the clutch shoes and cb go on that. I had to shave the tranny brace(Thank you, Po') and cut the engine mounts some for the pullstart housing. I may not have had to, but I lost the little adapters that came with the engine. There should be a couple aluminum spacers that come with the engine, use them and you may not have to mess with the engine mounts. The "X" means pullstart, make sure you get a good glowstarter. If you look at the breakin instructions, they tell you to leave the ignitor on through the first tank. Replace or recharge the ignitor before the second tank.
